What do you think of this amount of alcohol?

Two bottles of 11% wine every Sunday night. Starting at around 5pm, finishing around midnight. Total of 16 units. No alcohol consumed throughout the rest of the week.

What is so stressful in your life that it takes this much alcohol in a sitting to shake off?

When those twin doctors did the experiment where one drank all his weekly units in a single night, his blood alcohol reached a level where he was in danger of death whilst asleep. It's your life, and plenty of people do it, but be realistic about the risk.

Where was this shown please? 💕

It IS mainly by myself but not because I'm depressed or dreading work on Tuesday. I just genuinely love my own company and enjoy winding down with it whilst listening to music or watching something on Netflix or sitting on my porch if the weather is nice. It's my way of taking the edge off if you like, after a week of socialising and working all week. I don't start crying over my ex or anything. Sometimes friends do join me but not always. I prefer it when they don't to be honest!

I've been in this routine for a long time. For full context I have been depressed before and used to drink a LOT more but now I just happily enjoy it and once it's over the only thing I want the following day is a bacon sandwich and a walk with the dog. I don't even think about having a drink any other time during the week.

Sounds absolutely wonderful! I drink like that on Sundays quite often as we usually have a crowd over for a roast. Sunday is my favourite drinking day!

i would be dead. 2 bottles would
floor me for about 3 days.

@Ilovehamandtoast It was on BBC a few years ago but I just Googled it and found a writeup www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-32798569

That is a fascinating report. Very interesting.

Lozois99 · 11/02/2023 07:59

not a big deal at all. Enjoy your wine and ignore the nonsense on here

Holedin · 11/02/2023 08:11

It would be far too much for me but I have low alcohol tolerance and would be sick before finishing one bottle. Drinking so much in one go can't be healthy. It will raise your risk of cancer too.

3LittleFishes · 11/02/2023 08:32

I drank a bottle and a half of 14% red wine last night with a meal.
I have been up since 6.30am and the house is sparkling with most of my jobs done!
To those saying they would be done in after two glasses, that's fine. No one expects you to drink more but we are not all the same.
I had a nice evening with food, wine a good film and now I am bright and breezy ready to enjoy the day with my kids and husband!

@TreesAreGreen123 absolutely 🍾🍷

Rainbowclimbinghigh · 11/02/2023 11:18

Just wonder what the point is? Surely you'd feel absolutely awful the next day?

It's not good for your health, no.

fellrunner85 · 11/02/2023 11:35

All those saying this is an ok level of drinking really should read the link above with the study carried out by the twin doctors.
SPOILER ALERT - Quelle surprise, binge drinking isn’t good for you and can put you at risk of death. Stop normalising it.
Sometimes I really don't get MN. Illegal drugs = not fine; heavy smoking = not fine but drinking wine to dangerous levels = totally ok. It really is a middle class thing isn't it. If the OP was downing cans of Gold Label you'd all be horrified.

3LittleFishes · 11/02/2023 13:01

Crossing a road puts me at risk of death, driving my car can cause death, breathing in pollution can cause death....even eating slightly burnt toast increases the risk of cancer.
Most people want to live a life, not just exist whilst trying to minimise their chances of death.
SPOILER: life causes death, absolutely no one escapes it😉

Agree. It’s the equivalent of 10 pints of strongbow.

And 100% just do whatever you like, but people are responding because the OP asked, and drinking that much regularly at home of an evening is extreme. IMO!

I’m curious OP – are you a (tobacco) smoker?

Teeshirt · 11/02/2023 14:07

One interesting thing about the twin doctor link above is that not only did the “binge” doctor face a sudden death -the most dangerous point was a couple of hours after he fell asleep - the liver actually did not recuperate in the six days of alcohol-free time. Also, both doctors created similar levels of liver damage -and this was only a month after starting the experiment.

fellrunner85 · 11/02/2023 16:05

Most people want to live a life, not just exist

Couldn't agree more. But most people wouldn't call drinking that amount of wine "living"; they'd call it "drinking yourself into a stupor."
Enjoy wine, enjoy good food, enjoy doing lovely things by all means - but you don't have to do all these things to excess to enjoy them.
I'm sure most people would agree that eating one rare steak is enjoyable, but eating five of them in a row would be madness. Having more and more of things doesn't necessarily equal more fun.
