Ain't that the truth!

Blossomtoes · 14/02/2023 12:16

Sure is.

DuncinToffee · 14/02/2023 20:15

Another dodgy one

Exclusive: David Warburton, the suspended Tory MP for Somerton and Frome:

- failed to disclose a £25k donation from a billionaire in apparent election law breach
- used a forged document in £800k mortgage application
- concealed interest in property firm

twitter.com/Gabriel_Pogrund/status/1624470161603407873?t=J3pTJvAveYhXLoNTR9wLiQ&s=19

72 hrs later, no word on what an MP did with £25K donation days before 2019 election

Failure to give accurate info on cash received during regulated period is police matter. Knowingly doing so is a crime

Warburton wont say what he did with money, why it wasn't declared anywhere

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 14/02/2023 20:19

That's a pretty chunky donation to lose track of.

Exclusive: A long-awaited review into labour shortages has been put on hold

The Home Office last year asked the Migration Advisory Committee to produce a fresh report on the Shortage Occupation List - the 1st since 2020

However, Braverman has paused it

Was competent government ministers one of the labour shortages?

itsgettingweird · 15/02/2023 10:06

So Nicola Sturgeon has resigned.

That's going to change the political landscape somewhat.

DuncinToffee · 15/02/2023 10:07

Just saw that on breaking news. Wonder what brought that on?

Do we have any idea why?

Must say I wasn't expecting that.
So who replaces her?

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2023 10:10

The Times have been nudging her out for a while. I said yesterday to DH that their anti NS bias was really marked. But I don't know what's really behind it all.

Notonthestairs · 15/02/2023 10:11

Really interesting letter from Sir David Normington (ex Commissioner for Public Appointments) about how the Tory party have altered procedures for appointments for their political &, I'd assume, financial benefit.

It always surprises me just how much hatred there is for Nicola Sturgeon

That is because she is a woman and good at her job. She does not know her place.
Boris knows what a woman is, and what they are for.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2023 11:28

A lot of people are troubled by NS, for more than one reason, but I do think MN and the English media magnifies this. Anyone on MN who is broadly supportive is shouted down so those voices have gradually dwindled which perhaps over emphasises her decrease in popularity.

My DSM, female, feminist, civil servant, works in DV charity adores her.

The Glasgow Herald remains very supportive of her.

She did a good job of bringing the SNP into the mainstream and hoicking it cannily leftwards . She's a politician. Of course she can't do everything right.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2023 11:29

But the people who are now saying 'Gosh, yes, now let's have Salmond back because he knows what women are' need their heads read.

Roussette · 15/02/2023 11:41

I agree. She's been subjected to awful mysogynistic insults. I am not going on the Feminism board and saying this, but I have always respected her. She ain't perfect but she's not as bad as I've read on here either.

I admire her for publishing her tax returns and demanding Sunak does too. Guess what... It hasn't happened.

pointythings · 15/02/2023 11:43

I don't get the hatred for NS either. On MN a lot of it seems to come from the trans/gender angle and that makes me sad - two of my DC are trans and it upsets me to see the extremism and anger on both sides. Why can't we be adults about it and work out pragmatic solutions to the problems that arise? Yes to women only spaces for biological women. Yes to third spaces including in the criminal justice system and healthcare. And yes, that will all cost money, but it's better spent on that than on dodgy PPE contracts and gigs for Tory bezzie mates.

Piggywaspushed · 15/02/2023 11:44

The GRA also did have support ( and dissent) Cross party, so that ones not just a Sturgeon issue. She may be the figurehead but I find it very unlikely that her successor will think differently.

Blossomtoes · 15/02/2023 11:46

I agree @Roussette. I always had a lot of time for Sturgeon, she always seemed intelligent, thoughtful and had integrity.

Notonthestairs · 15/02/2023 11:51

Nicola Sturgeon Electoral History as SNP Leader:

GE2015: 50.0% (1st)
SP2016: 46.5% (1st)
GE2017: 36.9% (1st)
EU2019: 37.8% (1st)
GE2019: 45.0% (1st)
SP2021: 47.7% (1st)

Love or loathe her, an absolutely stunning record.

This is often overlooked.

pointythings · 15/02/2023 12:10

Meanwhile in other news the government is going to tell GPs to send ill people into work.

Because of the labour shortages, obviously. And the elephant is still in the room.

Spot on.

But certain parts of the media seem to now see trans as a good target for their daily hates and rabble rousing, to distract from the real issues that are ruining many peoples lives.
