What basic simple thing are you sh*t at?

I can’t cook rice. If you want rice you can cook it yourself. And I can pull together a roast from scratch and every meal in between without much thought, but for some reason, unless it’s in a microwave bag, I can’t cook rice.

I can’t cook poached eggs either but I feel I’m not alone there.

Cooking fishfingers. I haven't bought them for years. I'm a great cook, very tasty meals from scratch... But even the posh ones, whether fried or oven baked... Crust falls off.

Putting a duvet cover on.

Folding washing.

I can do your accounts though on paper or software of your choice 🤣

I can't judge volume.

Mum would just take a load of dried spaghetti and know this is the right amount for 5 people or right amt for 3 or whatever by eye. Same with rice, and anything else like that.

I can't.

Haha same here!

Might as well invite the street round due to over estimating.

There's only 2 of us, it shouldn't be that hard 🤣

Koicrap · 03/02/2023 23:59

@Mypoorbody DEAL!!! I’ll try one that could incorporate a shit load of rice as well??? I’ll smother a chicken in tandoori or something? The family call those sort of shenanigans “Koicrap’s funky new twist” on a roast.

Opening those pull ring cans. You know tuna beans etc. I bend it one way, then the other, pull....nothing! I swear I'm doing it the same way everyone else does but nada 😂

Mypoorbody · 04/02/2023 00:00

Oh God duvet covers!

Snap. All down to eyesight apparently - google ‘strabismus’.

If I ever felt I missed out on anything it would be the ability to play team sports (or any sports really) for fun. I was listening to my DM reminiscing about playing hockey with her friends and wondering what it would be like, to be able to join in, hit or catch or throw balls and have your body and your eyes actually give you the right information for a change.

It’s first world problems in a way, but I was born with the hearing of a 60 year old, I’m short sighted with a cosmetically corrected lazy eye, my co-ordination is correspondingly rubbish and I can’t run for toffee. Basically, my body is the human equivalent of a Soviet-era Trabant. 🤣

Nope I have bloody perfect vision, my eyes just don't talk to my hands.

I can't run or jump either though. I have no spring.

AllOutofEverything · 04/02/2023 00:03

I am a good cook but always struggle with omelettes. They taste fine but never look good.

Daisiesunderblueskies · 04/02/2023 00:04

Using a tin opener. I had to buy an idiot proof really expensive one. I just can’t get the angle/positioning right.

Also cutting an onion, I’m terrible at it.

Putting washing away too. I’ve got piles and piles of clean washing. I just never get round to putting it away.

Koicrap · 04/02/2023 00:06

@Whatthediddlyfeck I must add, before I give myself away to sleep, “like a goose farting in the fog” when will be the screensaver of my mind. 🤣

Can't make omelettes.

Can't walk down stairs without looking down. Would love to be able to bounce down stairs, looking ahead of you as you do it.

Scones are often a disaster.

The air fryer was a game changer for omelettes

@SandcastleQueen Isn’t that how everyone puts a bra on? 😳

Ditto the stairs as others have mentioned. I have to go down one step, then two, one, then two so every other step I am skipping a stair. I walk down they sideways back to the wall/bannister (like a crab almost) otherwise I feel like I’m going to fall down them. I absolutely hate stairs

Jack of all trades, master of none.

clary · 04/02/2023 00:16

I can put on a duvet cover and whistle and parallel park, but I can’t draw, or come up with art-related ideas (what do you want to draw? I dunno!) I really am rubbish. We had a painting and mark making session at work the other day and I was so so bad. Tbf everyone else there is a designer (I do the words) but still, I just was utterly uninspired.

I also can’t spell brocolli

Letsgroove · 04/02/2023 00:16

I can’t iron. Clothes always end up more creased.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/02/2023 00:16

I can't make that trill/rolling r sound. I'm a very good mimic when speaking Italian or Spanish, but cannot make the sound on its' own. 🤷‍♀️

Koicrap · 04/02/2023 00:17

@Travelfan2021 that took me years! And I swear to god, the right oven. It’s like whatever it says to whack it up to, whack it up 20 degrees more. that’s what worked, after hundreds of tutorials. I only figured it out three years ago: been trying for 10!

@Jux
Do you have a spaghetti ladle? The amount of dried spaghetti that fits through the hole in the middle indicates 1 portion.

What basic simple thing are you sh*t at?
JudgeRudy · 04/02/2023 00:18

I can't input a 16 digit credit/debit card number. Even simple on line forms I mess up and go round and round and round. I even spell my name wrong. It's only with typing though. I'm fine with paper and pencil.

Jux · 04/02/2023 00:19

SandcastleQueen, I used to know an underwear designer and she told me that was how you should put a bra on. When you've twiddled it round you should apparent lean forward a bit a let your breasts fall into the cups.
