Power ballads - which do you like and dislike

Like: We've Got Tonight by Bob Seger
All I Have by Beth Nielsen Chapman
I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner

Dislike: I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith
Wind Of Change by Scorpions

I'm not a big fan of this musical genre, I admit. That's probably why my list is so small. I especially think it's weird hearing rock and metal bands doing them. It's like Foster and Allen singing Highway To Hell.

I should also mention Keeping The Dream Alive by Freiheit. I don't know if it's strictly a PB; it certainly isn't a Christmas song as some folk believe.

Diane Warren has written a few PB hits for Leanne Rimes and Cher. She is also responsible for the Aerosmith one uptrend. Must be minted.

The Bryan Adams Robin Hood thing is terrible.

I don't know where PBs end and soft rock begins. I guess there's no real rules or distinction. Mind, something like America by Neil Diamond could pass for soft rock. Who's to say ?

I have a guilty soft spot for Cutting Crew’s ‘I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight’ Mr Mister’s ‘Broken Wings’ and the Bangles’ ‘Eternal Flame’ (80s? Moi?)

Oh, and I once made a slightly maudlin friend cry with my karaoke version of Toni Braxton’s ‘Unbreak My Heart’…😀

I love Wind of Change! I went on a school exchange to Germany in 1991; my host family had MTV and it was played constantly. I associate it with the hope and optimism the followed perestroika and the end of the Cold War.
