A very thick and heavy wool blanket

Where would you get one? Not a thin fancy merino wool throw but a proper big and thick and very warm traditional lambs wool blanket. The one that keeps you warm and not just good for pictures.
We used to have one at home when I was little. I think it might have been Irish.
I have done my googling but haven't found what I have in mind

Watching op, I’ve been looking too.

What about a vintage Scottish wool blanket? I bought one this year from Ebay and it's brilliant and wasn't at all expensive.

N4ish · 01/02/2023 20:42

Look at Avoca woollen mills or Foxford mills. Both Irish companies and good quality blankets. I have a vintage Foxford blanket and it’s incredibly warm and heavy but not sure anyone makes them that way anymore sadly.

Kames farm - expensive handmade alpaca Scottish blanket
Adra home - more affordable made in Wales

isthewashingdryyet · 01/02/2023 20:45

You want a Welsh woven blanket. Two layers of wool. Curlew weavers is where mine came from about 40 years ago.
So warm and so heavy

ANTA make gorgeous wool blankets www.anta.co.uk/collections/throws/products/freddie-clunes-super-soft-pure-wool-throw

Or try Etsy. I got a cashmere one on Etsy for a christening gift.

Try charity shops OP. I bought two heavy wool blankets for a tenner last week. Apple green, ceeam and pink stripes with satin edging. I sleep so much better under a bit of weight

I’m currently crocheting my own in a very small hook size to get a heavy blanket. Probably won’t be ready til next winter but so fed up of the flimsy offerings in shops!

Fourpaw · 01/02/2023 20:49

Melin Tregwynt for beautiful Welsh wool blankets. It's a little white mill in Pembrokeshire. They have a website.

I have this one but in red (out of stock at the moment). It’s beautiful and gorgeously warm and heavy.

Toast do lovely lambs wool blankets.

Icelandic wool blankets are great, but pricey.
I have several Scottish wool blankets, but there are fewer available nowadays. A lot of them are recycled instead of pure new wool.
