A very thick and heavy wool blanket

Where would you get one? Not a thin fancy merino wool throw but a proper big and thick and very warm traditional lambs wool blanket. The one that keeps you warm and not just good for pictures.
We used to have one at home when I was little. I think it might have been Irish.
I have done my googling but haven't found what I have in mind

McNutts of Donegal.

Trefriw woollen mills, Avoca, Bronte by Abraham Moon, Cotswold Woollen Weavers to name but a few. Homesense/TK Maxx often has remaindered wool blankets too.

I inherited a couple of 60s Welsh woollen blankets from Trefriw. One is turquoise and orange! The other a slightly more tasteful purple and white.

I love heavy wool blankets too, always remind me of sleeping at my Grans where you were pinned in the bed by the sheer weight of the blanket! I don't like the light weightedness of duvets, just doesn't feel right.

No help to you @Timide but a French friend of ours knitted us pure wool blankets, they are heavy and I'm sure she knitted in sleep dust because as soon as you snuggle under said blankets you are warm, cocooned and asleep within minutes.

Came on to recommend McNutts. Love mine.

@WandaWomblesaurus oh you don't wash them. You can air them, put in the sun, beat them out but I think in general they keep the sense of generations)) this partly makes them very special

Dry cleaner is an option but never bothered with it))

Another vote for Tartan Blanket Company
I've been a customer of theirs for 7-8 years - adore their blankets

But if they are second hand?

BlackPetals · 07/02/2023 00:28

My blanket from Laura's Loom is excellent.

I was going to recommend a Hudson Bay Company blanket. They are made in the U.K by John Atkinson for Ainsworth, who have lots of their own designs.
