I was sat on the top deck of a bus behind two teens who looked older, but from their conversation are building up to do their GCSEs.

Boy 1, 'What've you got on Monday?'
Boy 2 'Ahhh DT innit'
Boy 1 'What're you making?'
Boy 2 'Ahhh, bear-shit man'.. (to which boy 1 nods)

So Design & Technology I'm guessing? I have no idea what this involves, in my day it was woodwork/metalwork or needlework.. 😂What type of object is a bear-shit DT object?

OP posts:

Bear/bare basically means 'lots'. So he's saying he has lots of shit to do for DT (which I think you're right must be design and technology).

DrPhilYourGuts · 28/01/2023 19:18

*bare = loads

AnnaTortoiseshell · 28/01/2023 19:18

‘Bare shit’ - bare means a lot. Shit in this context means stuff. He is making a lot of stuff in his DT class.

Lucylock · 28/01/2023 19:18

I think bear means 'good'. So maybe good 'shit'. 😂who knows. My son speaks like that with his friends and then 'normal' with me. I rob him endlessly given we live in a very boring London suburb.

historygeek · 28/01/2023 19:19

DT- Design and Technology
Bare Shit- lots of things

Lucylock · 28/01/2023 19:19

Ignore me. Bear means alot apparently. Of course.

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/01/2023 19:21

Thanks for giving me a laugh.

WeepingSomnambulist · 28/01/2023 19:25

When I was in high school, we cut out sheet metal into bear shape and then coated it in red powder stuff that went into plastic.

I honestly thought they were making bear keyrings like we did 😅 but nope, it was teen speak which I dont understand!

Ofbollocks · 28/01/2023 19:27

You should have just asked them. They wouldn't mind. Excuse me, boys, what is in the dt?
And said if their bear has shit, they need to clean it up.

DrPhilYourGuts · 28/01/2023 19:32

By the way although I did say bare means loads/very. I wouldn't read this as he's a busy little bee in DT. He's saying, he's making a load of shit, as in it's all a complete waste of time.

I say this confidently having just checked with my own teen! Apparently if he was meaning he was busy he would say "like 10 things" not bare shit.

Places, food and people can also be bare shit as I am all too aware having holidayed with teens recently.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 28/01/2023 19:41

Thanks for this thread - the first time I've smiled all day.

historygeek · 28/01/2023 19:45

About 10 years ago the yoot tings went through a phase of using "bum" to mean good. So if it was very good it was.... bare bum

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 28/01/2023 19:50

Those of you with teens - do you use their language back to them in conversation?

Eastereggsboxedupready · 28/01/2023 19:52

By 2025 there will be GCSE teen speak exams.

Flymetothetoon · 28/01/2023 20:07

Every day's a school day! Grin

No. You must never do this. They will implode on hearing an old person use their language.

MrsCarson · 28/01/2023 20:48

My teen says Bear- Shit means he has no clue what he's going to make.

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2023 20:52

Bare shit definitely means "total crap" in this context.

I work with teens. Ask them about getting sturdy, NPCs and sigma males. Ten times a day at least I hear this nonsense. I join in with them in an excruciating RP accent and refer to "the tiktoks". Shuts em right up.

georgethegeranium · 28/01/2023 20:56

I like to reply to their teen speak with 'safe fam innit' which basically means nothing, like most of their nonsense, but worth the look of utter object horror on their little faces.

dontgobaconmyheart · 28/01/2023 21:02

It's 'bare' and it just means ' a lot' so in that context essentially - a load of shit that probably isn't worth discussing.

To be fair, I'm 35 and bare was around when I was a teenager, I don't think it's anything new.

Elsiebear90 · 28/01/2023 21:09

I’m surprised kids still talk like this because I used to say “bare shit” when I was a teen 20 years ago. Makes me feel a bit better after I had to ask a 24 year old colleague what “don’t deeps it” meant, and she she said she didn’t realise I was that old 😂

OnMyWayToSenility · 28/01/2023 21:11

It means: a lot of stuff

I'm about the same age and have only just stumbled upon the expression (while reading this thread)!

Reminds me of the comedy sketch with Armstrong and Millar as ///Pilots? who spoke like modern day youths!
