I was sat on the top deck of a bus behind two teens who looked older, but from their conversation are building up to do their GCSEs.

Boy 1, 'What've you got on Monday?'
Boy 2 'Ahhh DT innit'
Boy 1 'What're you making?'
Boy 2 'Ahhh, bear-shit man'.. (to which boy 1 nods)

So Design & Technology I'm guessing? I have no idea what this involves, in my day it was woodwork/metalwork or needlework.. 😂What type of object is a bear-shit DT object?

A while back when my Dad was still alive he remembers a lady on the bus speaking to a friend and laughing at her son for saying something was "Well Boomey" !

OnMyWayToSenility · 28/01/2023 21:11

It means: a lot of stuff

Yes, all sorts of things.
I enjoy saying “word Fam” to my teens whenever they impart their wisdom to me or “innit” if I’m agreeing.
They love it and find it hilarious (not)

Bare shit definitely means "total crap" in this context.

I work with teens. Ask them about getting sturdy, NPCs and sigma males. Ten times a day at least I hear this nonsense. I join in with them in an excruciating RP accent and refer to "the tiktoks". Shuts em right up.

Don't start with the sigma males and NPCs, or my personal favourite - 'charge it.' (Basically means 'get lost' as a response to any request).

iloveeverykindofcat · 29/01/2023 11:08

I know NPC means non playable character, but how is it used? To refer to an inconsequential or forgettable person? I quite like 'mid'. It means something of average quality that is overrated, usually by its owner.

How do you use 'mid'? Would it be 'his phone is mid' or 'he has a mid phone'?

Ihatepcos · 29/01/2023 11:22

Boy 1, 'What've you got on Monday?'
This is self explanatory, what lessons do you have on Monday?

Boy 2 'Ahhh DT innit'
I've got design technology.

Boy 1 'What're you making?'
Again, exactly as it says.

Boy 2 'Ahhh, bear-shit man'.. (to which boy 1 nods)
Not making anything exciting, just the usual crap you would make in DT.

purpledalmation · 29/01/2023 11:32

🤣🤣🤣. Well you live and learn!

Sheldoncoopersspot · 29/01/2023 11:36

I suddenly feel so old 😊

iloveeverykindofcat · 29/01/2023 11:58

@PlaitBilledDuckyPuss It seems to come more at the end of sentences, or even as its own sentence, to be more damning.
"Seen his new phone?"
"Mid."

By the way although I did say bare means loads/very. I wouldn't read this as he's a busy little bee in DT. He's saying, he's making a load of shit, as in it's all a complete waste of time.

I say this confidently having just checked with my own teen! Apparently if he was meaning he was busy he would say "like 10 things" not bare shit.

Places, food and people can also be bare shit as I am all too aware having holidayed with teens recently.

this definitely.

Ohnobloodysnow · 29/01/2023 12:27

Bare is Jamaican patois for 'a lot'

MissWired · 29/01/2023 13:02

Are the exams being held in the woods?

PatsysBeehive · 29/01/2023 13:16

My 16 year old god daughter was going out with her friends last night. I told her she looked "peng" apparently that's not a cool word anymore 😁

3WildOnes · 29/01/2023 13:19

I was saying bear shit as a teenager 20 years ago. And now I want to cry because I can't believe I am so old.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 28/01/2023 19:50

Those of you with teens - do you use their language back to them in conversation?

Slay

Sick meaning good threw me as I associate this word as a bad thing
Although this may not be used as much anymore

Gwenhwyfar · 29/01/2023 13:35

"Makes me feel a bit better after I had to ask a 24 year old colleague what “don’t deeps it” meant, and she she said she didn’t realise I was that old 😂"

Does it mean don't think too deeply.
I needed an explanation of 'I'm not your owl'. Apparently owls carry messages in Harry Potter. In my childhood books they were just the wise ones.

Any chance people can explain what these words mean in their posts? I know I could look them up...

Do you remember, wicked, or wickedy-bad meaning good?

I would understand bare-shit to mean nothing, or nothing important.

Innit, bruh 😄

4thonthe4th · 29/01/2023 13:46

He’s making loads of things in design & technology class on Monday.

Peng means fit. Or nice, good….

An adult saying it to a teen would be the single cringey-est thing ever. Shudder.

the80sweregreat · 29/01/2023 13:56

Slide into their DMs is an odd one
I did have to look
Up the urban dictionary

I just looked it up. When I read your post I assumed DMs mean Doc Martens. I know better now.

Shesasuperfreak · 29/01/2023 14:29

I'm 30, I use bare in everyday conversations.
