I like watching things like NCIS.

Over the years, I’ve heard the phrase watch your six and just let it fly over my head expecting not to understand it.

Literally the other day, it suddenly occurred to me…it means watch your back!!

Of course it does!

...why does it?

Nvm. Worked it out.

Never heard the expression before.

Anyway, something that took a while to register for me, is the word discipline and disciple are the same and to discipline someone (usually a child) actually means to teach ... Which is absolutely not the same as punishment. But I used to conflate the two.

Well, that’s something else new for me

And yeah, once you work out what it means, (watch your six), it’s suddenly obvious

I've never heard the expression - and have no idea why it would mean to watch your back

Why does it mean watch your back??

It means watch your 6 o clock position. Ie straight forward is 12, so 6 is your back.

Because of the clock - 12 o'clock in front, 6 o'clock is opposite so behind you

Guessing it comes from police or military speak.

One day I sat on the tube in London and realised why the Bakerloo line is called that. Two of the main stops are Baker Street and Waterloo.

Heard on the radio this week where we get the word raspberries from, as in blowing raspberries.
It’s Cockney rhyming! Raspberry tart! Never realised!
