How many grandkids do your parents have?

WrendaleCountryDogs · 28/01/2023 08:43

Mine have no biological grandkids and one step granddaughter.

I know somebody the same age as my mum (early 60s) with 22 grandkids from her 5 children and 5 great-grandkids!

My parents have five from 3 kids, aged 11-19.

Blueisthecolor · 28/01/2023 13:14

They have 5 grandkids from their 2 children and are early 60's.

Puppers · 28/01/2023 13:21

Between them they have 8 grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren.

Between them they have 4 and also 3 children, early 70s, and all of us are NC, so basically none (only ever even met my 2).

Lovegossip · 28/01/2023 13:24

My mum has 5 and became a gm 1 year after her last child

Babyroobs · 28/01/2023 13:30

Only have my dad left but he has six ( 4 are ours), and my in laws had 5.

BridieConvert · 28/01/2023 13:57

My mum is 64 and has three grandchildren. My 2 and my sister's 1.

My mum is 64 and has three grandchildren. My 2 and my sister's 1.

She'll probably end up with 5 at the most I'd think, I'm definitely not having more.
My granny had 10 grandkids and was around 15 great grandkids when she passed but it's definitely in the 20s now!
But my granny had 4 kids whereas my mum had 2.

LolaFerrari · 28/01/2023 13:59

1 from me. That's all they're getting. My sibling won't have any and I'm one and done.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 28/01/2023 14:00

My mum is 58 and my dad is 63 and they have 5

allthemissingfucks · 28/01/2023 14:26

My parents have 3 so far, possibly a 4th (adopted) on the cards.
This is from 5 offspring.
I think we were all put off being in a large family and a good awareness of the environmental impact of a ever expanding human population has meant we didn't want go down that route.

Bouledeneige · 29/01/2023 20:55

Mine had 6.

BTMadmummy · 29/01/2023 20:58

Just my 2, none of my siblings have children.

TwinMama6 · 05/11/2023 11:00

My mum has 13 grandchildren, my in laws have 27 grandchildren from their 10 kids

MoulinPouge · 05/11/2023 11:26

My parents have 3 GCs - all mine as my sibling has chosen to be child free. My in laws the same, as my husband's 3 X siblings have all chosen to be child free. We're stopping at 3 so in our extended family the latest generation adds up to below replacement level unless someone changes their mind about being child free.

By comparison, my grandparents on one side had 4 GC and on the other side had 3 GC. My husband's grandparents on each side had about 15-20 GC, maybe 20+.

I think the overall trend is for grandparents to have far fewer GC on average than their own parents did, though it does vary enormously between different groups.

Whilst it would be nice for my children to have cousins, it's also nice for them not to be among a huge number of GC. I felt close to my grandparents and cousins, but my husband probably couldn't name all of his cousins (!) and his grandparents focused on / were closer to some GC than others (quite difficult I should think to be really close with ~20 GCs!)

Two grand DCs and one Great-grand DC

Echobelly · 05/11/2023 11:47

My parents (both 73) have 3 kids, 5 grandkids, no chance of any more.

In laws are in mid 70s and have 3 kids and 4 grandkids, I guess potentially their youngest child could still have kids but it's looking fairly unlikely at the moment

ShowOfHands · 05/11/2023 11:49

My parents (66 and 68) have 4 between the ages of 12 and 16. There won't be any more.

ILs (62 and 65) have 6 between the ages of 2 and 16. Probably will be a few more.

Babyroobs · 05/11/2023 11:52

My parents had 6. Dh's parents five. I have four kids and hope they don't all decide to have many ! I don't think they will have more than one or two each and ds1 says he doesn't want any. My parents had six in six years and it was a bit much for them really.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 05/11/2023 11:53

I'm 36 weeks pregnant with first grandchild on both sides! We both have siblings but mine are much younger and DHs sibling has given his parents grand-dogs instead 😂.

CornedBeef451 · 06/11/2023 09:05

My DPs are 79 and 80. They have 3 DCs, 10 grand children and 4 great grandchildren.

There's more than a decade between me and my siblings so my DCs are in senior school while some of my nieces and nephew are over 30 and I have a great nephew who is older than my DS.

Bbq1 · 06/11/2023 10:04

Parky04 · 06/11/2023 10:08
  1. Unlikely, they will have any great grandchildren!
MrsPositivity1 · 19/11/2023 15:28

EwwSprouts · 19/11/2023 15:31
