last night we cleaned him out and my daughter didn’t close the lid and he must of escaped over night, we’ve checked everywhere no doors were left open. I’ve literally searched every room cupboard? Any tips

They are desert animals, they can go for days without food and water. He's probably under the floorboards, and bound to find some snacks there.

inappropriateraspberry · 22/01/2023 10:04

Ours would get in under the bath behind the panel. I'd definitely give it some more time. Get on with your normal day and he'll probably just appear!

My brothers hamster escaped one night, it managed to go upstairs, into my mums bedroom, climbed up the bed and woke my mum up by walking around on her pillow. Poor woman nearly had a heart attack, she thought it was a mouse.
My brother just thought it was incredibly clever, I don't think she ever forgave him. Grin

Nannewnannew · 22/01/2023 11:32

He’s probably got some food stored in his cheeks so could be ok for a few days, hopefully will come out of hiding when he’s hungry! Sounds like you’re having a stressful weekend with your daughter being poorly and hamster gone AWOL. ❤️

Get some humane traps and put his food in and leave one in the living room, one in the kitchen and one elsewhere

TherealmrsT · 22/01/2023 12:54

Don't give up hope, the first time mine got out it was more than a week before we saw any sign they were still about.
The humane mousetrap didn't work as it's body was long enough for it to get the food but still keep the door open.
Sitting waiting for it didn't work.
A bucket and piece of wood with a bit of peanut butter at the top of the wood and in the bucket did the job every time...(once it had the taste for freedom it escaped multiple times as it could open cage doors unless they were wired closed).

rogueone · 22/01/2023 12:54

I had one hamster who I renamed houdini as he escaped all the time. I even had to tape up the cage as he managed to open it and get out. I found him in various places- tucked in at the back of a set of drawers. Right in the corner with a stash of food and bedding, under my bed in amongst some storage boxes, under my chest of drawers, in the kids toy box which was in a slide ward robe. In my other sons room again in the slide along storage wardrobes and had made home in one of the shelves he also would hide at the back of the wardrobes - good luck

Sorry if it’s already been mentioned, but put a dusting of flour down so you can see paw prints.

ItWillBeDone · 22/01/2023 21:54

Still no sign OP? Hoping for a positive update.

Foxgluv · 22/01/2023 23:01

It's a case of where there's a will, there's a way. Those animals get in everywhere. Our hamster gnawed through a unit and set up home in a drawer. Another time it made it's way into a mattress. Listen out for scratching/burrowing noises.

Bowbellsx · 23/01/2023 09:12

No still no sign untouched food 🥹I think I’m gong to start the grieving I don’t think he’s coming back x

Don’t give up yet. He should still be about. You’ll give yourself a heart attack when you open up a drawer and there he is

newmum0604 · 23/01/2023 10:06

As kids my sisters hamster got into the sofa... I mean inside the lining of the sofa, no idea how. Sister cut a hole in the fabric under the sofa and hamster crawled out. Could this be possible for you?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/01/2023 10:07

Happened to us once. We’d looked everywhere. Finally left the cage on the floor overnight with the door open - he was curled up asleep in his bed in the morning.

Bowbellsx · 23/01/2023 10:25

He’s been gone since Friday night and not touched his food x

Bowbellsx · 23/01/2023 10:25

surly he couldn’t survive without water x

Have you put food in each room, downstairs and upstairs, and under the floorboards, so you can see if he's gone to a different room?

@MarshaMelrose I’ve put food in every room and kept the doors shut it’s not been touched I don’t know how I would get under floor boards as I have all wood up upstairs and down

They are stinkers, these gorgeous, little hammies, @Bowbellsx! Do you have any small gaps round your radiator pipes? Mine found his way into the pantry and there gaps all over the place! Shocking state of affairs in that pantry! They can live a lot longer than you think. He probably gnawing away at your water pipes as we speak!

@MarshaMelrose i live in quite a new build house I’ve looked everywhere and no gaps etc that I can see. I’m just worried because he hasn’t has a drink or touched his food

Don't despair. Carry on doing what you're doing. There's always a ood possibility he's raiding something else. They're very cunning. Does he have favourite fruit, veg or meat? Something with a bit more smell?

Bowbellsx · 23/01/2023 13:46

I’ve only had him since September he liked broccoli and yogurt treats

My partner said know way could he climb stirs

Your partner is wrong, very wrong!

ours could get up the stairs faster than the kids!!

Don't give up, my friends daughters one disappeared one day & it was gone for months. One day it was just there, sitting on her DD's bed like nothing had happened. They didn't understand how it had survived, until they went to replace the carpets & there were holes everywhere.

hope Houdini comes back soon!

ps:they can squeeze through tiny spaces, even ones that look a bit tubby!!!
