What has happened to Kit Kat’s???

honeyandbutterontoast · 17/01/2023 13:38

Bought a packet of 2 finger Kit Kat’s this morning, 9 of them in the pack I think.

So firstly, the packaging has changed. No idea why because you can’t recycle the new packaging at home 🙄

But then I realise it’s because they are smaller… I don’t have an old one to check this but I’m sure of it!

And they taste different. Maybe the chocolate is thinner but the ratio seems wrong and there wasn’t the little chocolate bit at the end before you get to the wafer.

Seriously? Is nothing sacred? Why would they meddle with a perfectly good coffee accompaniment :(

The chocolate tastes horrible now, so disappointing!

KnickerlessParsons · 17/01/2023 13:39

All chocolate sucks these days - except Lindt, and that's too expensive to buy regularly.

FeltCarrot · 17/01/2023 13:40

Still like Galaxy.

I just buy chocolate from Aldi now- way better than Cadburys or Nestle

catsandkid · 17/01/2023 14:01

Agree - they taste totally weird now. I used to have one to curb choc cravings as they're not too high in calories... went to have one the other day and didn't even finish it (unheard of when I'm around choc!) because it was meh. Also had a weird coating left in mouth. Ick.

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 17/01/2023 14:10

Nothing is sacred anymore. I agree with pp and buy Aldi chocolate. Aldi 'Chunky' biscuit bars in the blue wrapper are the best.

QforCucumber · 17/01/2023 14:25

Palm oil - it's all the palm oil, it leaves a coating in the mouth as it doesn't melt liker cocoa butter and other oils at mouth temp.

Chocolate sucks.

Favouritefruits · 17/01/2023 14:49

I’ve always hated Nestle chocolate, it tastes gritty and super sugary. I think your lucky getting a nine pack thought they’d reduced them all to seven in a pack.

cobblers123 · 17/01/2023 14:53

I stopped buying Kit Kat bars a couple of years ago, the chocolate covering the wafer was so thin you could read a newspaper through it and it tasted horrible.

If I buy chocolate at all, I also buy Aldi or Lidl now. Much nicer.

Deeandra · 17/01/2023 14:57

I'd love to see the ingredients list of a chocolate bar from 15 years ago (or more) to now.

It's stealthy but they've definitely changed and as PP said it must be the palm oil. Pump stuff more full of crap in order to increase your margins. Reduce the size and charge the same. You can't even buy a 200g bar of chocolate any more - it's 180g.

honeyandbutterontoast · 17/01/2023 16:07

Definitely a 9 pack.
probably had my last one 6 months ago when they were still in the foil and paper wrappers. Flavour has changed since then.

They are more like American kitkats now.

Timeforabiscuit · 17/01/2023 16:42

I'm doing a no sugar January, and it's because of shite like this!

I don't miss eating chocolate, because I remember it tastes rubbish now unless I go for the really expensive stuff, but all I really want is a 1990s version dairy milk bar 🙁

bigbluebus · 17/01/2023 16:45

If you want chocolate on your kit-kat now you have to buy the chunky ones. That said, the chocolate definitely doesn't taste the same as it used to so probably best not to bother at all.

Gonnaturnourlivesintoafreakshow · 17/01/2023 16:47

Remember how much chocolate you used to get on a club?

They've diminished recently too.

Time40 · 17/01/2023 16:48

Tunnocks Caramel Wafers - that's what you need. They haven't changed in my lifetime, and they're fab. (I'm sorry to hear about Kit Kats, though. That's a shame.)

IntentionalError · 17/01/2023 16:48

I love dark mint Kit Kats, Tesco sell them. They have a yummy grown-up taste.

Thanks for the tip.
Cadbury and galaxy are greasier these days
palm oil?
just YUCK.

Time40 · 17/01/2023 16:49

Yes. And the advert: "If you like a lot of chocolate on your biscuit, join our c -l-u-bbbb"

GreenLeavesRustling · 17/01/2023 16:49

Yeah they are awful now. I used to make a really easy cool cake with Kit Kats. The last one looked shit because the wafers were all showing through and there were holes in the chocolate. I complained to nestle and got a £5 voucher (that could only be spent on more outlays, which I didn’t want) and a lie of an explanation that it was a factory error

we won’t be buying Kit Kats again. They taste crap too.

There were two biscuits in them too in my youth

Palm oil is foul.
British Chocolate bought out by Americans.
Ruined the taste.

frenchnoodle · 17/01/2023 16:58

While we are on the subject, I'll just mention WAGON WHEELS!

They used to be kinda big and kinda round...

Now they are kinda flat and kinda small with out much mallow or anything at all under that chocolatey stuff.

garlictwist · 17/01/2023 17:13

Some Aldi chocolate is nice but I've just bought their version of Reese's peanut butter cups and it's rank, tastes like soap.

Deathraystare · 18/01/2023 08:49

Never liked Kit Kat but I had a caramac the other day. Too sweet! Something used to catch at the back of my throat when I ate one but it doesn't now, but oh the sweetness.
