If you love, love your cup of tea (proper one !) but had had to go 24 hours without caffeine for a medical procedure what herbal tea would you recommend?

DM ...84 has a cuppa all day long !

Procedure says no caffeine drinks 24 hours beforehand.

DS mentioned about getting her decaff tea but I think that still has some caffeine in it ?

I googled and came up with herbal alternative.
She does like a sit down with a hot drink .

What would you recommend ?
What does camomile taste like ?

Or should I just go for a fruit tea ?

So what to help her !
Thanks .

Redbush or Rooibos (same thing)

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/01/2023 19:35

I'd rather go without than have decaf. I don't like the herbal teabags - the fruit ones smell nice but taste of disappointment, largely.

However, infusing fresh ginger, lemon, lime and orange slices in hot water is very nice and if she adds a lot of milk to her drinks yuk, hot milk would be quite nice (although some spices also have stimulant effects, so leaving off the chai spices and nutmeg might be advisable just in case).

yorkshirepudsx · 08/01/2023 19:38

Redbush tea has no caffeine :) Tetley do it I think!

ladygindiva · 08/01/2023 19:38

I like peppermint tea. Very refreshing .

horriblechristmas2022 · 08/01/2023 19:40

Dandelion coffee ? With milk

FestivePinkFairy · 08/01/2023 19:42

I like the Pukka Vanilla Chai but leave it to stew for a while.

Danikm151 · 08/01/2023 19:46

Hot vimto 🙂

napody · 08/01/2023 19:53

Rooibos (I love the dragonfly earl grey version) gives me the same refreshing hit as a proper cuppa!

neverendinglauaundry · 08/01/2023 19:54

Tik tok tea is good.

Who thought I would have to be helping my 84 year old mum with withdrawal symptoms 😂

I was recently introduced to Yogi Christmas tea which is delicious. Tastes like mulled wine. I'm definitely going to try others in this range. Fruit teas always smell so lovely but disappoint in taste.

lljkk · 08/01/2023 20:00

check if chocolate is also banned, due to caffeine

If chocolate is allowed then decaf tea will be low caffein enough.

lljkk · 08/01/2023 20:01

MIL who loves regular tea finds redbush vile. It's not for everyone.

Oher · 08/01/2023 20:07

Lemon ginger, or peppermint

SweetestThing · 08/01/2023 20:09

Redbush with vanilla is lovely. Tetley do this one. I don't put milk in it so no idea what it would taste like with milk added.

mommybear1 · 08/01/2023 20:18

Peppermint definitely one of the nicest teas.

bizzey · 08/01/2023 20:18

Text says NO :
TEA
COFFEE
COLA/COKE
ENERGY DRINKS
CHOCOLATE.

After procedure ...should I just give her 1/2 cup of tea till we get home ?

bizzey · 08/01/2023 20:19

Though if she does have palpitations...at least we are in a hospital!

Red Bush. This reminds me I have run out and need to get some more. I also drink Yorkshire tea, mint tea and Early Grey. But Red Bush is a more convincing replacement for "proper" tea.

lljkk · 08/01/2023 20:22

just ask about decaff.
Or try Rooibosch in meantime.
We like milk with Peppermint but it's unusual, sure.

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/01/2023 20:26

But is your Mum lacking mental capacity in some way? dementia or similar? if not then she will understand what no caffeine means and avoid drinks with caffeine as instructed.

Kpo58 · 08/01/2023 20:40

I like Nettle tea. It's a bit like Jasmine green tea.
