If you love, love your cup of tea (proper one !) but had had to go 24 hours without caffeine for a medical procedure what herbal tea would you recommend?

DM ...84 has a cuppa all day long !

Procedure says no caffeine drinks 24 hours beforehand.

DS mentioned about getting her decaff tea but I think that still has some caffeine in it ?

I googled and came up with herbal alternative.
She does like a sit down with a hot drink .

What would you recommend ?
What does camomile taste like ?

Or should I just go for a fruit tea ?

So what to help her !
Thanks .

I like fennel, the fruit ones are too sweet x

I was going to suggest twinings decaf as it is the only decaf I consider to be acceptable and comparable to regular tea. But if that still has caffeine in it (and I had no idea that was the case!) then I’m not sure. In all honesty if I want tea, herbal is no good and I might as well have a glass of water.

My go tos are camomile and ginger and lemon. Mint also very nice.

Green or camomile

StillWeRise · 08/01/2023 18:33

fennel- pleasant mild aniseed flavour, or mint
I'm not a fan of herbal teas generally - but I especially don't like the fruity ones, they all taste like Spangles to me

Hoardasurass · 08/01/2023 18:33

Another vote for camomile

greenacrylicpaint · 08/01/2023 18:33

roibos tasted almost like a cuppa and you can add milk if you like milk in tea.

I'm a big fan of yogi or chai tea - spices in a bag.

wetpebbles · 08/01/2023 18:34

Peppermint is refreshing and camomile soothing

Anothersoddingname · 08/01/2023 18:35

I’d stick to a slice of lemon in hot water.
I’m an 8 cups of coffee or green tea a day person but I couldn’t accept a herbal tea.

Theheartmustpausetobreathe · 08/01/2023 18:35

Roibos

Squisageandmosh · 08/01/2023 18:35

Pukka treble ginger

galliton · 08/01/2023 18:36

If tea is permissible provided it is decaffeinated then I recommend Clipper's Organic decaffeinated tea! A nice strong tea! Roibos/redbush tea is also a good alternative tea, as others have suggested, if you want something as close to the taste of tea as possible.

TheRightDecisions · 08/01/2023 18:37

Good earth tiger turmeric and lemon, far more delicious than the other teas of a similar type with a pleasant warming effect.

Quweenie · 08/01/2023 18:37

I think you’d be absolutely fine having a normal decaf tea.

Squisageandmosh · 08/01/2023 18:37

Oh yes rooibos or redbush is a good call!

ZenNudist · 08/01/2023 18:38

Peppermint is the best. I have converted so many friends to drinking it

Augend23 · 08/01/2023 18:38

Roiboos / redbush works with milk as a reasonable tea substitute as long as you leave the bag to mash for a while.

Swearwolf · 08/01/2023 18:38

Even decaf black tea still has some caffeine. When my stepdad was on radiation therapy he had to be super strict about caffeine and I remember the only thing he could drink was rooibos (red bush).

Goosefatroasts · 08/01/2023 18:39

Definitely rooibos it’s full bodied like tea (is dark) and you can add milk. Totally caffeine free.

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 08/01/2023 18:39

Chai which I believe is caffeine free, and is lovely with or without milk.
Pukka three camomile
Camomile and spiced apple
Be wary of green teas as they do have caffeine.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 08/01/2023 18:39

I would check about the decaf tea. To be honest I would probably go completely different - hot squash or something.

cpphelp · 08/01/2023 18:39

Lemon and ginger

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 08/01/2023 18:39

Peppermint for me

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 08/01/2023 18:40

If you only drink real tea, they will all be horrible. Herbal teas are no substitute unless you sort of wean yourself onto them.

She may need to reduce her caffiene for a few weeks or she'll get one hell of a withdrawal headache. Perhaps move to caffeine free tea from lunchtime and progress from there?

iamyourequal · 08/01/2023 18:41

I would recommend Yogi Classic or Yogi Detox flavour. They are lovely teas with a good warming, spicy (not hot) flavour. If your DM drinks a lot of normal tea then she may find chamomile, fruit teas rather bland and one-dimensional. It’s a very personal thing though, so a small variety box might be a good idea.
