If you love, love your cup of tea (proper one !) but had had to go 24 hours without caffeine for a medical procedure what herbal tea would you recommend?

DM ...84 has a cuppa all day long !

Procedure says no caffeine drinks 24 hours beforehand.

DS mentioned about getting her decaff tea but I think that still has some caffeine in it ?

I googled and came up with herbal alternative.
She does like a sit down with a hot drink .

What would you recommend ?
What does camomile taste like ?

Or should I just go for a fruit tea ?

So what to help her !
Thanks .

Nettle tea is very like ordinary tea & very nice.

It will be a no to decaf. Check packaging - the box will say caffeine free if it genuinely is. If the procedure is what I think it is, she will be turned away if there is even the suspicion she’s had any form of caffeine, so in all honesty I’d stick with hot water and paracetamol for that headache, then she can’t go wrong!

@ipswichwitch thank you .
I don't want her turned away .

What procedure are you thinking about ?

Redbush is really foul.
I would ask about decaff. Decaff tastes just like normal tea, but Redbush really is vile.

Herbal teas are a completely different drink altogether. Nothing like tea. Personally, I'd rather drink just water if I couldn't have decaff tea or decaff coffee.

Going from drinking lots of tea to none is going to give withdrawal symptoms though. When I changed to decaff almost 20 years ago, it took about a week for the headache to go.

English Breakfast tea has no caffeine, according to my dietitian.

Peppermint tea is lovely.

I find every other herbal/fruit tea an abomination.

Earl grey ?

Earl grey is black tea so has caffeine

My faves are peppermint, lemon and ginger, apple loves mint (suki tea). I only drink herbal tea in afternoon as I can't sleep if I have any caffeine.

Mezmer · 09/01/2023 22:05

Nothing will replace black tea. Best just have water. Herbals are vial.

Green or camomile

Green tea isn't herbal. It contains caffeine.
