Does anyone else hate January?

The Christmas celebrations are over, Christmas lights and decorations are coming down, not as much money left due to Christmas spending, feeling fat and unhealthy due to all the food eaten over Christmas, cold and wet days, dark nights and mornings.

I don’t mind February as much, but I start to feel better in March when we hit spring and the nights start getting longer.

I don’t mind the dark nights as such, but I hate it getting dark as early as 4pm!

January feels quite short to me because I live in Spain and the festivities go on until after the Three Kings (Epiphany) on 6th January. In fact in my bit of Spain, the three kings is the main event in terms of presents. Kids don't go back to school until 9th January.

I love it but dislike christmas. I feel like I can breathe now january is here.

January is shite but I continue xmas until Feb 1st..Xmas Grin I don't keep the tree up but I have fairy lights and small decorations. I snuggle in to do as much crafting as possible. I make sure to take Vitamin D tablets to keep my mood up and I make a point to sit facing the sun on those sunny-but-cold days. I also keep my eyes out to see the first buds of new leaves developing & daffodil leaves poking through.

I like January but maybe it's because I have my Birthday to look forward to. Instead of feeling depressed about what's been and gone I try and have a more positive outlook and think of all the nice things I have to look forward to this year, no matter how small.

I detest it and I feel very depressed at the moment. I’m not able to function well at all.

The evenings are slowly getting longer and lighter. By the end of the month it will just be getting dark at 5.30pm (at least in the south anyway).

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 07/01/2023 20:02

I am trying to see it as a "reset" month. A time to rest, sort the house out, get more sleep, get back into my normal healthy eating and fitness regime...

It's difficult though, as what I want to do is stay in bed and eat chocolate!

DappledThings · 07/01/2023 20:06

There are no months I particularly like or dislike over any others. I prefer darker evenings to lighter ones so once it gets past whatever time of year it is that sunset is after 6.30ish I get a bit annoyed.

Thank you. I’m struggling. Can’t imagine feeling ok again but I know deep down I will be ok

I love January. But then again I don't overspend for Christmas and don't overeat during Christmas so most of the negatives you state don't apply to me. You make your (christmas) bed, you lie in it.

Very very much. My mental health has tanked and my self esteem and motivation is at zero. Seriously fucking struggling.

ImAvingOops · 07/01/2023 22:01

I could do without the relentless rain!
On the bright side, I've paid the 10 months of council tax and have no bill in Jan or Feb, so there's a bit of extra money coming!
I keep up the fairy lights after Christmas and like getting things back to normal sending the kids back to school so I can have some peace
