Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone's plans for Christmas Eve?

lucysmam · 24/12/2022 07:35

I'm just having ten with my cuppa before heading up to wake the girls. One load of tea towels to be washed to day & then that's it for a few days washing wise!

We're off to the local market for our veg and cheese. We always walk in on Christmas Eve, then home to see my dad, and then I'll walk a couple of things down for Nanna.

After that, we'll put some Christmas music on and prep for tomorrow's roast so I don't need to put much effort into cooking; just turn hob rings on & put them in/out of the oven.

Tonight, I'll do my nails & chill. The girls have plans to watch something together.

Once they're settled; presents will go under the tree and I'll fill their stockings so thier dad can put them on the ends of their beds. It's the one night they'll sleep early even though dd1's almost 16, and dd2 is 13 in a few days 🤣

Whatever you're up to, have a lovely day 🎅

Have a lovely day too

I'm working and then during my break I will grab few last min items we need. Home to cook Xmas eve beige buffet!

OldTinHat · 24/12/2022 07:37

Merry Christmas to you all!

I'm in bed with the germ. On my own tomorrow with a microwave meal for lunch. Supposed to be travelling on boxing day to stay with family but not sure if that will happen now.

Bah humbug!

fancyfrogs · 24/12/2022 07:39

Having a total chill day! Bit of tidying this morning then a nice dog walk.

Happy Christmas to you all and hi Lucysmam
I’m still in bed and we have left a nice present from the elves so I’m sure the dc will be up soon. i might take them to the cinema but there isn’t much on so I’m not sure. I’ll prep veg and we have mass later. Dh sorts the Turkey so he will prep that and wrap in foil ready to go in the oven tomorrow.

GnomeyGnome · 24/12/2022 07:40

Sounds like a fab day OP! For the first time ever I'm not rushing around on Christmas Eve which I'm very excited about. Everyone's still asleep apart from me and the cat who woke me up for his breakfast. Planning on making a gingerbread house today with the kids, if we can get it to stand up! 😂. Then going on a walk later to drop off cards and chocolates to a few local friends. Then back to watch a yet to be decided Christmas film. I'll prep what I can for tomorrow's dinner while DH & kids play a board game then takeaway and TV and early night for all!

Merry Christmas Eve 🎄🎅🎉

JustFrustrated · 24/12/2022 07:41

Me and the eldest just got up so we can go to Tesco for some very basic stuff we need -we aren't having Xmas here.

Then it'll be home to prepare gnocchi for tea tonight.

Shower, pack and load the car before heading over to my families house with said gnocchi and presents.

Pigeonnoir · 24/12/2022 07:42

Swimming this morning to burn some of three DC’s energy . They are at fab excitable ages 8,6 and 2. Crib service then out for an early dinner at local pub. Have to squeeze in making some ginger bread too .
happy Xmas eve mumsnet!

TheGirlWhoLived · 24/12/2022 07:42

I’m having a final 5 mins lying in snuggly bed, then going to start waking up the rabble. We have the panto at 10, then going to take ds for a nap whilst dd1 and dd2 and dh play games or watch a film. Then off to the pub for 3, meeting family for a festive tipple, followed by harvester at 5, showers, new pajamas, and ho ho hoooo

fancyfrogs · 24/12/2022 07:42

Oops posted too early! Have 1 of DS's presents still to wrap (an easel so have had nowhere to hide really ha!). He's only 2.5 so not fully into the whole magic of it all yet.
Also hoping not to go into labour if I can help it. Not due for another couple of weeks but been up most of the past 2 night's generally uncomfortable... would very much like to get tomorrow out of the way with first as looking forward to my dinner Xmas Grin have a lovely day all!

PeonyRose80 · 24/12/2022 07:42

The awful lurgy has hit our house. Supposed to be going to our local town for a Christmas Eve brunch, then home for movies and fizz but not sure now.
Tiny bit of cleaning to do and prep the goose for tmrw.

Jewelanemone · 24/12/2022 07:47

Into town at lunchtime to have my nails done (might have a festive drink while we're in there), relaxing in the afternoon then off to brother and sister in law's for steak and chips tonight.

Happy Christmas everyone!

Treedecsandtinsel · 24/12/2022 07:48

The plan is to tidy then head to our favourite pub for a boozy lunch, followed by the crib service at the village church then get the kids ready and read our special Christmas book.

actually everyone is sick, the baby hasn’t let me put him down for 48 hours, DD won’t eat (but obviously they are not as sick as DP though, he’s man flu sick and would be in the dressing gown of doom if he had one) so we might not be doing a lot.

im desperate to get out through, away from the infernal sniffing and sighing of the sick one. Gah!

soundsystem · 24/12/2022 07:49

That sounds like a lovely day! I'm having a cuppa in bed before ours starts. Mine are younger (8, 6 and 4) so relaxing will be in short supply over the next few days!

We're going to go and pick up our bread and cheese then back to do some food prep before Christingle. Various Christmas tree-shaped food items for the kids tea then once stockings are hung and the children are in bed DH and I will open a bottle of champagne and exchange gifts. Then I'll go to midnight mass while the rest of the family sleep and walk home in the still frostiness of Christmas morning, ready to fill stockings and get a small amount of sleep ready for the big day!

girlmom21 · 24/12/2022 07:50

We're going to see Santa then out for lunch with some friends and family and a chilled evening with the in laws who are staying for Christmas.

Have a good one OP!

Els1e · 24/12/2022 07:50

Go for a walk. Call into local farm shop to pick up a loaf of bread. That’s it. Hope everyone has a good day and those not feeling well, get a restful day at least.

Crunchymum · 24/12/2022 07:52

DP working, need to hoover the whole house, change the cat litter trays, stick a wash on, prep the veg for tomorrow, clean toilet and bathroom, bath / shower us all and then we are off to inlaws for dinner.

Except I've woken up with a sore throat, handache and earache.

FasterthanBolt · 24/12/2022 07:53

I have an unplanned hangover which I'm desperately trying to shift 😁. DH and I are currently drawing lots on who needs to walk over and pick the turkey from the butchers, he is losing! Then I need to finish a couple of handmade presents and thats it!

Breathmiller · 24/12/2022 07:55

Morning lucysmam.
Your day sounds lovely.

Day as always begins with yoga and meditation but I'm having a lie in today first. So nice that everyone is on holiday.

I have another couple of washings to do , one is nearly done. Make 2 desserts (maybe some meringues with leftover egg whites if I have time). Make the veggie pate for the starter tomorrow. Prep veg later and start bread sauce so it can soak in onion and cloves overnight. Take stuff out of the freezer.

Dh is making dough for pizzas later.

Hoping to get time for a bit of pampering before dd and her partner arrive this evening.

Watch Carol at Kings (and invariably have a wee tear as I think of my Gran who used to watch it too) and The Snowman.

We'll have our pizzas and play some games.

Then get presents under the tree ready for tomorrow morning.

Read The Night Before Christmas to my youngest who is 11 and found out about Santa earlier this year. This is the first year in 32 years I have no true believers in the house. (I have a huuuuge gap between kids). I'm sure the big man in red will still visit though so we'll put out milk and a mince pie and a carrot for Rudolph. ☺

Happy Christmas Eve everyone.

MyKidsAreKnobsInDecember · 24/12/2022 07:57

My children have been bickering for 40 minutes and counting. I'm trying to not lose my mind.

mynameisnotkate · 24/12/2022 08:04

Getting up shortly and going for a run. Then the morning will be prepping for tomorrow - making brandy butter, pigs in blankets, devils on horseback and the extra pudding for those not keen on plum pudding. Picking the Turkey up from the butcher at noon. Then a lazy afternoon with the family - grazing on yummy snacks and buffet stuff, watching movies, playing games, drinking mulled wine and hot chocolate with squirts cream. Then the final two chapters of A Christmas Carol and pack the kids off to bed. DH and I will watch something else while we wrap the stocking presents. Can’t wait!

Commiserations to all those who are all. Been listening to DD blow her nose and cough for the last hour so I fear it’s coming to our house …

cheshirecatssmile · 24/12/2022 08:05

Just got up
The dog is hyper
Had brew then get dressed and do my food shop.
I'm working a long day (nhs) Xmas day so we are celebrating Boxing Day.
Still got loads to do though.

OddBoots · 24/12/2022 08:09

Our children are young adults, ds lives with us and dd has come to stay so we are going out bowling later but generally just chilling as we have an early start tomorrow heading about an hour and a half away to my mum's house (where I will be cooking) via her church.

AntiqueCestChic · 24/12/2022 08:09

I'm in bed (day 3 of covid) and a cup of tea 🦠 feeling quite grim.

Just drafting a 'to do' list for DP and the DC which includes a food shop, hoovering and washing

They will be delighted I'm sure 🤣

Simonjt · 24/12/2022 08:09

Christmas is celebrated on christmas eve in Sweden, so we’ll be getting up in a bit so my son can open his presents, he didn’t go to bed until 11 last night as we had my husbands Grandma here, so he’s very tired. We’re not particularly big on christmas as neither of us are christians, we just do a little token christmas really. Here you open the presents around sunset on christmas eve, so around 3pmish.

There’s a treasure trail in the local woods, so we’re going to that this morning, I wasn’t sure if it would still be there today so I had a look on my run and thankfully it was.
