Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone's plans for Christmas Eve?

I'm just having ten with my cuppa before heading up to wake the girls. One load of tea towels to be washed to day & then that's it for a few days washing wise!

We're off to the local market for our veg and cheese. We always walk in on Christmas Eve, then home to see my dad, and then I'll walk a couple of things down for Nanna.

After that, we'll put some Christmas music on and prep for tomorrow's roast so I don't need to put much effort into cooking; just turn hob rings on & put them in/out of the oven.

Tonight, I'll do my nails & chill. The girls have plans to watch something together.

Once they're settled; presents will go under the tree and I'll fill their stockings so thier dad can put them on the ends of their beds. It's the one night they'll sleep early even though dd1's almost 16, and dd2 is 13 in a few days 🤣

Whatever you're up to, have a lovely day 🎅

Lazy day here, changed the bed, washing machine on, I’ve prepped the vegetables and made the bread sauce for tomorrow and tidied around. DH supposed to be walking DDog 🙄 but he’s faffing around getting in the way 🤬
I need to vacuum downstairs and empty the ash from the wood burner, fill the log basket and then that’s it!
Only the two of us here so minimal work!
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Day 🎅🏼🤶🎄🥂🥂

DH was working late last night so I let him lie in while DD and I lounged around and watched tv. He’s up now and I’ve just been in the shower, so will decorate the Christmas biscuits I made yesterday with DD and give the inside of my car a quick clean as I’m giving family members lifts today and tomorrow and don’t want to be embarrassed by the state of my car!

We’re off to my mums for a buffet lunch with the rest of the family and then to the crib service at church, which DD loves. We’ve got lasagna for tea and then we’ll put biscuits and stockings out for Santa!

Only fly in the ointment is that I’ve woken up with a scratchy throat so I’m slamming the orange juice and vicks first defense in the hope of warding off a potential cold.

Currently having a Toby breakfast. Then home to start finish wrapping. Then a Santa visit, crib service and food with in laws. Then home in time for a Christmas film and some chocolate. DDs are young enough to be excited but old enough to know how it all works 😉

Washing out. Bathroom and downstairs toilet had a quick wipe. Presently coffee and xmas cake. Then planning to walk around to our old neighbours with their card and present - DH will go for a walk up the hill, I'll come back here and do a quick hoover downstairs and online taichi class I enjoy.

This afternoon picking DD up from work and giving her a driving lesson. Then watching a film or playing a game. Then have a creamy pasta dish planned for tonight (two of us will have salmon on top) and a glass or two!

Enjoy your day everyone.

Looking at neighbourhood Christmas lights, trying not to get irritated by MIL, doing the veg, watching a film.

Friendofdennis · 24/12/2022 12:36

Trying to find my Christmas table cloth … or any table cloth. Then going to make the trifle for tomorrow. Last minute tidying and putting presents under tree. Then make a powerful mulled wine (Swedish glogg which also has brandy in it ) Christmas film and listen to carols later

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 24/12/2022 12:42

Fed a friends cat - he’s getting used to us now so it was very straightforward! I’ve baked some mini cupcakes and some biscuits and my mum’s made some mince pies. We’ve done two loads of washing and my brothers have just surfaced in time for lunch (sausage/bacon baguettes).

Later we’ll go to a Christingle service round the corner, then my brothers will go and feed the cat, whilst my mum and I decide what to open from the Christmas table for tea. Then my brothers and I will read The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey as we have done for years (we’re all in our twenties now, but it’s a tradition!)

Was up quite early, had a lazy breakfast, took DD and the dog to the moor for a long walk, now home and DD is having some lunch. This afternoon I’m going to clean and tidy the house ready for tomorrow and lay the table. DH is doing food prep and taking the dog for another run later. Make DD some dinner, do the mince pie/carrot stuff, bathe her and put her to bed. Sit down for a takeaway with DH then put presents out for the morning. Earlyish night hopefully around 10.30 as we’ll be up early tomorrow! Merry Christmas everyone!

TheBirdintheCave · 24/12/2022 13:32

We went shopping this morning for cheese and festive puddings. This afternoon we're cleaning upstairs/doing laundry/other chores whilst the toddler naps then we'll watch a Christmas film with him when he wakes up. We're having a supermarket Indian takeaway for tea so we don't have to cook and will spend this evening wrapping the remaining presents and prepping some of the food for tomorrow :)

PollyEsther · 24/12/2022 13:32

We’ve been out for breakfast (yearly tradition), then came back and DS3 and DD had showers and got into their new PJs left by the elves. DS2 popped to see a friend and exchange gifts, but he’s home now and in his room.

We’ve played a couple of card games, now we’re watching Harry Potter. DH has taken DS1 down to start his shopping (typical late boy!) and when he gets back I will prep some of the dinner for tomorrow. We’re having 4 different meals between us! Easy enough though and I’ve bought a lot pre-prepared so I can just warm it up. Today I need to cook the gammon and make cauliflower cheese.

Once I’ve done that, we will all sit and play some board games for a while, before we have an early tea of lots of party food!

Then Muppets Christmas Carol, leaving out mince pie & carrots and early to bed. I will also sleep early because I get so excited! Xmas Grin

lucysmam · 24/12/2022 16:15

I'm just watching The Snowman with a glass of wine before we carry on. The only things left to do are custard for the trifle, and half set the table 😊

The girls are busy tracking Santa on Norad & playing the games on there 🤣

I'm not sure whether they want to do a mince pie for Santa and carrot for the reindeer later or not; we'll see!

We watched the Snowman too - its not Christmas until you've watched The Snowman!

We were visited by Father Christmas, no problems this time (last year he crashed his car on his way!). Was going to skip doing it this year because its an extra cost but DS is at the age when his belief is the strongest so I decided to do it after all.

Anyone else’s toddler being an overtired horror? Think the excitement of Christmas over the last few weeks has all got a bit much, she napped off on the sofa today and I had to wake her as I need her in bed earlyish to do the necessary things this evening 😬 she’s been glaring at me while eating dinner, I pretended not to notice so she walked over to me, put her face in mine and made sure I saw it 😂

Yes, christ, I could not get mine to nap today. We put him down at 1 and it was 2.30 before he was asleep 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Mine is 4 so not a toddler but yes! She kept turning round to glare at me in church and then insisted DH carry her out to the car

Just to say @lucysmam I do love your threads. They're so homely

We are chilling at the moment as we've been busy this morning attempting to tidy the house ahead of all the Christmas presents the kids will get.

I wanted to take the kids skating this morning but the rink is shut. We will go sledging for a bit this afternoon (live on East cost of Canada, piles of snow). It's very cold though

Roast pork for dinner tonight, kids can watch a film and we'll have wine

Merry crimbo everyone 🍷🎄
