Such sad news. Loved The Specials but remember my flat mate playing his solo music a lot.
Forever J is one of my favourite songs.
Definitely look it up if you don't know it

Properly gutted about this news, grew up in Coventry and The Specials were the sound track to my early teens. Only got to see them in recent years as I wasn't allowed at gigs in those days.
And I hate those people who pop onto threads like this to say "Who?"

I'm absolutely gutted. The Specials are my favourite ever band, always have been. And Terry Hall my no. 1 crush. I always mention him on the who do you fancy? threads on here. Currently wide awake reading everything about him. I honestly could cry 😥.

Gutted at this. My first crush and favourite band The Specials ever ! So sad as he wasn't that old and seemed alot happier in himself from his Instagram posts.Very sad for his family.

He was abducted age 12 adn this must have had a severe effect on his life. SAd.

I grew up going to Coventry every weekend to see family probably about the same time. There was an exhibition at the Herbert in 2021 about the music scene then in Coventry that we went to see. Wonder if they'll put something on again.

Just see this on the news, RIP, he was a year younger than me and I loved their music.

I don't normally get why people get so upset about the death of someone they've never met. I do now. Growing up in the 80s the Specials were the soundtrack to my youth. I was obsessed with Terry Hall and had posters on my wall and even managed to bag a lookalike boyfriend. I lost my only sibling last year so this feels like a body blow, more of my youth disappearing.

He was so talented and did so many great things with different bands. I'm kicking myself I never got to see him. I always thought there would be time.

RIP Terry.

Yes, genuinely sad to hear he'd died. I was 10 when ska became big & while I loved the music, I didn't appreciate the lyrics & message until later.
Gangsters is a work of art & Too Much Too Young has such a message as do all the songs, summing up the social problems of the late 70s/early 80s & often still relevant now.
A quiet genius, RIP Terry.
