There's something about a bowl of porridge...

For breakfast on a cold day. So comforting but nourishing too, feels like you're setting yourself for the day. I've just had mine with cinnamon and a blob of almond butter, plus a little agave syrup for sweetness. Feel so much better after a freezing school run and dog walk!

I promise I don't work for the porridge marketing company! Wink

I too, love a bowl of hot porridge. I not only have it for breakfast but sometimes lunch and dinner as well. I like mine with some walnuts nuts, sunflower seeds, dried raisins and a drizzle of honey on top. Yum!

Dorsetdingle77 · 14/12/2022 10:00

Porridge is one of my all time favourite 'meals' I'd happily live off it! I like to blend my oars before I cook them, makes it extra smooth and creamy.

Spliffle · 14/12/2022 10:01

I like porridge too but I find I get hungry faster than if I eat a breakfast with protein.

Especially with maple syrup

MangoBiscuit · 14/12/2022 10:04

I also need protein or I end up ravenous again by 10:30, so I add in a bit of protein powder.

WandaWonder · 14/12/2022 10:05

I think it tastes better when someone else makes it for me

midsomermurderess · 14/12/2022 10:06

I like to cut a banana through it, maybe put some grapes in too. Excellent breakfast.

SierraSapphire · 14/12/2022 10:11

I make it half with quinoa and a half with oats for more protein, I cook up a batch of quinoa at the beginning of the week and then use it throughout the week. I add ground flaxseeds, which are more for health reasons than taste, almond butter, and other nuts for more protein.

MsChatterbox · 14/12/2022 10:14

I like it but I have to have so much milk honey and sugar to enjoy it it's more like dessert in the end! So for me it's a treat rather than a healthy breakfast.

ohioriver · 14/12/2022 10:17

Makes me want to Puke

Wish I could like it it's so cheap and healthy but I can't stand it!

allabitmuch45 · 14/12/2022 10:19

Interesting to see people mention protein. I love porridge but often end up hungrier than if I'd skipped breakfast! I'll try protein powder...

stbrandonsboat · 14/12/2022 10:20

It spikes my blood sugar.

roarfeckingroarr · 14/12/2022 10:22

I wish I liked porridge. It's cheap and nutritious and versatile. But I just can't eat the stuff, especially with milk 🤮🤮🤮.

minticecreamisjustok · 14/12/2022 10:30

When I have the time to cook it, proper oats none of the packet stuff. I find it really filling, also helped with weight loss as I don't snack after eating a bowlful. You can use water and milk if it's too rich. I put a square of 70% chocolate in the middle.

CoQ10 · 14/12/2022 10:45

Add some finely grated carrot and sultanas. It's like eating carrot cake for breakfast 😋

Soproudoflionesses · 14/12/2022 10:52

I always stir some crunchy peanut butter through it yum yum

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 14/12/2022 10:56

I find it very filling, keeps me going till lunch. Usually I low-carb but I make an exception for porridge on a cold day. The almond butter adds some protein of course.

I love it too! Flahavan's Irish Porridge Oats are my fav.

rainbowandglitter · 14/12/2022 11:19

I hate it. It's disgusting. I also feel hungry really quickly after eating porridge

longtompot · 14/12/2022 11:26

I agree @MadameSzyszkoBohusz after having a bowl with golden syrup on this morning😊

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 14/12/2022 11:30

Oh no I can't stand the stuff. Awful gloop.

FrostyBits · 14/12/2022 11:32

Agree with @stbrandonsboat about it spiking blood sugar, it does the same to me. I like porridge and it makes a great breakfast but I often feel dreadful afterwards and even if I don't get the sugar spike it doesn't keep me full and I end up more hungry than if I'd skipped breakfast.

LadyChamberlain · 14/12/2022 11:39

I'm surprised to hear it doesn't fill some people up for long.

I have porridge almost every day, even during summer and find if I have toast or a bagel instead I'm hungrier much sooner than if I've had porridge.

I buy the bags of frozen berries from aldi and add a handful of these as well as a dollop of peanut butter.

ParanoidGynodroid · 14/12/2022 11:43

I love porridge, it's very comfy. DD likes it with a banana through it and cooked with soya or other vegan milk; I'm a true Scot so cook it with water and salt, and add a bit of milk to the bowl to serve.
I don't see any other salty porridge fans here!

EspeciallyD · 14/12/2022 11:43

It makes me hungrier than if I'd had no breakfast too. Shame because it's lovely.
