So, macaroni pasta with thick cheesy bechamel sauce. Is it...

Macaroni cheese?
Cheesy pasta?
Mac n cheese?
Something else?

What do you call it, and where are you from?

Notjusta · 13/12/2022 13:27

Macaroni cheese but only if you've baked it in the oven (or at the very least grilled it).

SunlightThroughTrees · 13/12/2022 13:27

Macaroni cheese if baked with a crispy top, otherwise just cheesy pasta. South east.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 13/12/2022 13:30

Macaroni cheese. Merseyside

NewToWoo · 13/12/2022 13:32

I call in macaroni cheese

DS2 aged 20 calls it mac n cheese. He has a very international friendship group so maybe that's what it's called outside UK.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 13/12/2022 13:34

Macaroni cheese if using Macaroni. Cheesy pasta otherwise
Essex

Pineapplebread · 13/12/2022 13:34

If 8 finish it in the oven mac and cheese if it's just stove mixing cheesy pasta. Idk why as logically it's the same but I just always have done.

Redglitter · 13/12/2022 13:36

Depends on the pasta. If its macaroni then it's macaroni cheese but if its any other pasta its cheesy pasta.

You just can't call any old pasta shapes macaroni 😁

emmathedilemma · 13/12/2022 13:37

an IBS attack ;)
It's only macaroni cheese if it's been baked in the oven with melted cheese, and maybe breadcrumbs, on top.
Cheese poured over pasta is cheesy pasta.

underneaththeash · 13/12/2022 13:38

In our house that would be macaroni cheese (with other pasta as I've run out of macaroni!)

helpfulperson · 13/12/2022 13:38

I would say cheesy pasta is just grated cheese on pasta without bechamel sauce.

chocolateoranges33 · 13/12/2022 13:44

Cheesy pasta

Alicetheowl · 13/12/2022 13:49

Pasta with a cheese sauce, or pasta al formaggi if I'm being posh. Macaroni cheese if it's baked.

GoldenCupidon · 13/12/2022 13:49

Macaroni cheese and I can very seldom be arsed to add time and calories by doing a topping in the oven.

Other pasta shapes e.g. farfalle with the same sauce would be "pasta with cheese sauce" though, and should ideally have crispy bacon bits or vegetarian equivalent on the top.

upfucked · 13/12/2022 13:51

Macaroni cheese.

Kanaloa · 13/12/2022 13:51

If it was a thick sauce on macaroni pasta I’d call it Mac n cheese. If it was out of a red box with little thin pastas I’d call it cheesy pasta.

Rauha · 13/12/2022 13:52
