Macaroni cheese if the pasta is macaroni, cheesy pasta if it's anything else (I usually use penne).

And a macaroni pie from the 24 hour bakers near my house is the best thing ever after a drunk night out.

They wouldn't really know what I was on about though. 😂 Or, at least would think I was feeding small children. It's not really a thing here. They don't know what macaroni (maccheroni) cheese is either.

I have lived all over the place and have always called it macaroni cheese - it was my favourite thing as a child in the late 50s and 60s. Mac'n'cheese is an Americanism and I won't use it.

I call it pasta with cheese sauce. Unless it's macaroni, and baked, in which case it's macaroni cheese.

I'm the same as many others on here - mac and cheese if it's macaroni (which it hardly ever is tbf) or cheesy pasta with anything else!

I would call it cheesy pasta to deferentiate between that & what my kids think of when I say Mac & cheese. If I say Mac & cheese I mean bright orange KD from a box

I very rarely buy macaroni so I'd call it pasta and cheese sauce.

I'd only call it macaroni cheese if I baked it (and obviously if i'd used macaroni).

When I was a child (1960s and early 70s) my mother used to buy two types of macaroni. The short stuff that we normally see today was used for milk puddings (and for painting and making into necklaces). But there was also much fatter stuff about 6" long and longer stuff that we used to eat with a variety of sauces (but strangely never cheese)!

I haven't seen that long macaroni for years.
