Does everyone prefer winged sanitary towels?

Because I’m getting really frustrated by how many of my usual shops don’t sell the wingless ones. I now have to do a special 24 mile round trip to stock up as my local shops and the medium-sized supermarket that I commute past only offers various types of the winged variety. Is this the same everywhere?

I used to put a winged pair in my knickers, then another pair of knickers on top so the wings didn’t stick to my trousers.
Since I’ve had a coil fitted I don’t need them.

Get some period pants and wear with moon cup on heavy days. It will change your life. I have the modibodi ones as only branded were available at the time but you can get cheaper ones everywhere now.

My mothers generation (born 100 years ago) must be rolling with laughter in their graves to hear that it's now fashionable to wash and re-use sanpro.

They had no choice and hated it; my teenage mother and aunts shared and washed the same rags. Leaks meant they always wore dark clothes on period days. They were over the moon when disposable ST's with loops and elastic belts became widely available (and affordable) .

Modern washable pads are definitely not rags. They're shaped for the job, clip into place and made with appropriate waterproof and absorbant materials. After use, storing in a wet bag which can go directly into a washing machine without further handling, then a cold pre-wash before washing as normal. You can even have your own!

It's like comparing a toilet in a modern house with having to traipse out to an outhouse 100 years ago.

I always favoured wings to hold pads in and reduce leakage at the sides.
It sounds like the range of disposables has gone downhill rapidly in the 10 years since I last used them.

I prefer wings so much but after 20 years of periods I finally took the plunge and used a tampon and my past 3 periods have been a mess free blessing 🙌

Not really answering your question but I’m a recent convert to period pants and I love them. No way would I drive 24 miles for pads.

NoNameNowAgain · 07/12/2022 07:22

Well done@abblie !

MegaClutterSlut · 07/12/2022 07:24

I prefer winged, I find I leak with the non winged ST.

Killingmytime · 07/12/2022 07:35

Nope, hate the things

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/12/2022 07:56

I hate wingless ones - they scrunch up and don't feel secure at all. I wouldn't trust one on its own unless maybe right at the end of a period (and then only if I couldn't find a winged one). Wings all the way!

Kinsters · 07/12/2022 08:06

I always used to buy winged but then I bought some wingless ones by mistake and realised they were way more comfortable.

DuncanBiscuits · 07/12/2022 08:07

Sainsbury’s own are the only ones I’ll use. No wings, no scent.
