Does everyone prefer winged sanitary towels?

Because I’m getting really frustrated by how many of my usual shops don’t sell the wingless ones. I now have to do a special 24 mile round trip to stock up as my local shops and the medium-sized supermarket that I commute past only offers various types of the winged variety. Is this the same everywhere?

I can’t believe nobody has suggested a Mooncup yet. Generally a few posts in on a thread like this someone has come along with the hard sell. 😂

IDontWantToBeAPie · 06/12/2022 17:39

Wingless fall off my pants tbh. They like roll together and then fall to the side.

Maybe a good time to go reusable?

This! Pads will take about 1000 years to break down - like nappies. I really hope people wale up to this fact and go reusable.

No to the moon cup - bloody awkward things - bit yes to the lovely and comfy reusable pads - loads of good ones out there.

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2022 17:44

Mooncups are not something |'ll be faffing with any time soon, maybe if they were around when I was in my teens I'd have given them a go but not now. I think when it comes to periods when you find products that work for you stick with them whatever they are though.

Runningslow · 06/12/2022 17:46

I actually already use a moon cup. Have always needed to double up with pads as well.

I haven't used sanitary towels for years, as prefer a Mooncup, but as a teenager the winged ones would rub my thighs raw.

Recently had a miscarriage and set my husband to Boots for high flow, no-wing, unscented sanitary towels.

He had to FaceTime me from Boots as he couldn't find what I thought would be a basic sanitary towel. Having been back since and seen the range, I have every sympathy with him... There were only two sorts of wingless out of the whole aisle dedicated to sanitary products!!

Mooncup with Primark period pants is my go to!

NoNameNowAgain · 06/12/2022 17:50

Wings were absolutely what I needed as a teenager. Pads bunched up in the middle and the blood leaked onto either side. The edge of the gusset then sometimes became hard with dried blood and rubbed the skin off my thighs.
I now use a mooncup plus period pants if necessary.

Suzi888 · 06/12/2022 17:50

Yes I prefer wings. Amazon?

NoNameNowAgain · 06/12/2022 17:55

Before wings, I tried winding toilet paper round and round over the pad and under the gusset but it was never very satisfactory. I never had a problem with wings.

In that case, 100% use a mooncup and period pant combo. I do on my heaviest days and it works great.

Ericaequites · 06/12/2022 18:04

@mothertrucking I miss Barbie futons too. They neither leaked on the sides and were not scented. The plastic sort give me a rash. Wings are irritating. Now, I use nonapplicator tampons and homemade terry pads.

LaughingCat · 06/12/2022 18:06

Winged all the way for night time sleeping - the super big types. Tampons for day time as my IUD means mooncups are a nogo. Wingless just don’t cut it for my flow - half way through the night, I end up leaking otherwise.

I hate wings! I always used the light purple wingless pads for year and years! Then about four years ago I just could not get them anywhere…I actually thought they had stopped making them. The last week I saw them in a boots further afield so I grabbed a few packs!

Barleycat · 06/12/2022 18:14

I cut the wings off if I buy them by mistake. Hate them with a passion and can't imagine why anyone would choose them

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2022 18:28

Doesn't cutting the wings off increase the possibility of leaking?

People on the thread have explained why they choose them, so it's not too hard to imagine...

ouch321 · 06/12/2022 18:34

Notanotherone6 · 06/12/2022 16:45

Wings are better. Wingless bunch up in the middle and are guaranteed to make you leak onto the side of your knickers.

This basically.

WhoWants2Know · 06/12/2022 18:46

I hate the wings. The last thing I need on my period is an impromptu wax.

skyeisthelimit · 06/12/2022 18:47

I used to prefer the winged Always, but then they changed them and now they don't stick to the pants properly. I switched to Always Maxi Night Time (without wings), but they have been really hard to get hold of, I ended up having to buy 6 packs at a time from Ebay.

HellsBells87 · 06/12/2022 18:51

I need wings otherwise I bleed all over my knickers, especially at night. Kotex do ones without wings, the ones in the big pack that aren't individually wrapped.

OlleOskiFelle · 06/12/2022 18:52

I use a mooncup with reusable pads with automatically come with wings to attach them to underwear, period pants on top if its a really heavy day.

ShakeYourFeathers · 06/12/2022 22:20

Winged all the way here. Wingless give me a wedgie

ButtOutBobsMum · 07/12/2022 06:29

Hate wings too. I prefer to wear a towel a little higher up the front of my pants and the wings stop me placing them where I want. I have found that the cheaper store brand towels tend to be wingless. Currently using Tesco's own-75p a packet!

carbedup · 07/12/2022 06:37

Who approves the design and functionality I wonder? It's so sad that we are having this conversation.
But yes OP I agree...winged ones are useless. I also cut wings off.
