Does everyone prefer winged sanitary towels?

Because I’m getting really frustrated by how many of my usual shops don’t sell the wingless ones. I now have to do a special 24 mile round trip to stock up as my local shops and the medium-sized supermarket that I commute past only offers various types of the winged variety. Is this the same everywhere?

Are B period pants reusable? And any good for heavier flows?

I can't stand wingless they slip and slide everywhere!

Love’em. Accidentally stick the wings to your pubes and you get a free waxing! Two for the price of one!

BOGOF 🤣.

QueenBeex · 06/12/2022 16:59

The wings always end up folded / creased and not stuck down anyway. I'm not sure how anyone successfully gets them to stick correctly 🤔

Yepy · 06/12/2022 16:59

I don’t understand how anyone can wear wings . Period pants are a mystery too. Heavy flow here too OP all the way from start to penultimate day almost.

You have to stick them together under the gusset but then it’s impossible to undo them!

I do not mind wings, so much as I detest scented towels. There is no need for them imo.

mothertrucking · 06/12/2022 17:09

I hate winged sanitary towels! I kiss the proper old fashioned surf board type thick ones. Sanitary towels nowadays make me sore with all the scents they put in them.

My mothers generation (born 100 years ago) must be rolling with laughter in their graves to hear that it's now fashionable to wash and re-use sanpro.

They had no choice and hated it; my teenage mother and aunts shared and washed the same rags. Leaks meant they always wore dark clothes on period days. They were over the moon when disposable ST's with loops and elastic belts became widely available (and affordable) .

dontgobaconmyheart · 06/12/2022 17:12

Surprised to see such strong feelings on it; I don't really care either way, but usually buy winged out of habit. The only think I've noticed is that there are so many fragranced towels now (why), I always double check before I buy that I'm not accidentally picking up one of those.

MotherWol · 06/12/2022 17:12

I’ve recently discovered Morrisons basics maxi pads and they’re a revelation. Like downsized maternity pads, thick and cotton and not plastic or scented. SOOO COMFORTABLE.

DepIndoChridmadWidMe · 06/12/2022 17:13

I've noticed the wingless ones are always the ones left over in the free basket in public toilets.

thenightsky · 06/12/2022 17:14

I think people only have trouble with wings because pants these days have such ridiculously narrow gussets. I bought me some old lady big knickers with a decent width of gusset (twice the width of my M&S high legs). Wings now fit properly and nothing bunches up or slips around.

PurBal · 06/12/2022 17:15

I use reusable ones so wings are a must!

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2022 17:15

I prefer wings, feels more secure, but that said I don't use them on their own, more of a belt and braces thing with tampons.

Buckland123 · 06/12/2022 17:16

This thread just goes to show there is definitely a need for a variety of different types of sanitary product!

maddiemookins16mum · 06/12/2022 17:17

Bodyform have wingless.
But as a teen of the 70s who remembers the belt/loops and think Dr Whites, wings were a dream come true.

WonderingWanda · 06/12/2022 17:20

Cut the wings off?

MardyHa · 06/12/2022 17:23

Hate them. Extra step to deal with, more plastic used. Stick to pubes. Stick to everywhere on pants than where you want them and then don’t peel off. Leak around the base. The fact they’re often fragranced makes me want to scream.

MelchiorsMistress · 06/12/2022 17:26

I don’t like wings either. Trying to find wingless and scentless pads is becoming more and more difficult.

ImAvingOops · 06/12/2022 17:27

Try Kotex - they are really cheap, unscented and have no wings.

Sparklingbrook · 06/12/2022 17:28

I don't have any of the issues people have mentioned with the wings, maybe anatomy plays a part too, and underwear choices.

dolor · 06/12/2022 17:28

Before I got my HRT for perimenopause, I was going through sooooOoooOOO many pads because I couldn't use anything internally due to my glorious clam being INCREDIBLY ANGRY all the time.

I swore by this supplier:

PacificallyRequested · 06/12/2022 17:29

I hate the winged ones! If I ever find non-winged, non-scented pads in the shops, I buy about 5 packs. I have better luck in pound/bargain shops than in supermarkets.

RuthW · 06/12/2022 17:29

None wing ones are useless. They don't stay put and leak very quickly.
