About the audit:
That US check on the use of the weapons they sent makes sense MissConduct and helps rather than hinders as you describe it.

The UK language is terrible however worthwhile their intentions.

I've one vague hope that what is actually being suggested in that some form of Operational Research (OR) study on the British supplied weapons - that would make much more sense than simply generating "dashboards" or some form of balance sheet.

UKGov has been very keen, on and off, making headlines about how much it is supplying but we (in public anyway) don't really know how effective some of it has turned out to be, especially the older stock. It's obviously important money is spent and effort is concentrated on providing equipment that is effective, rather than just chucking anything into the fray that is close to, or is past it's expiry date.....

But whatever is going on I wouldn't go around describing any such research as an "audit".

I tried to post yesterday but Internet issues lost the post.

In my opinion Sunak is a numbers man, he likes things in neat orderly rows that he can manipulate as he sees fit. He's also a snake with no moral compass and family links to a business that still trades in Russia. Personally I wouldn't trust him any further than I could throw him. That's why I'm so fucking angry the conservatives made him their leader and Prime Minister.

The fight for Ukraine was the one thing the government were/are getting right and I believe the British people are on the whole behind supporting Ukraine. Leaving would be the end of him.

Whilst clearly a lost cause surely it’s no different to sending the likes of Vera Lynn and of sending Katherine Jenkins to entertain the troops in Iraq?

prettybird · 18/12/2022 12:29

I'm sure shooting the conductor of the Kherson Orchestra in the head when he refused to play for the occupiers did wonders for Russian troop morale Angry

Very different.. Jenkins etc was sent to entertain - Russia is trying to boost morale, which must be rock bottom, if we are to believe what we are being told.

ISW Key Takeaways
www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-december-17

The Kremlin is likely attempting to increase perceptions of Putin’s competence and of that of the Russian Ministry of Defense by publicizing Putin’s meeting with the joint headquarters of the Russian Armed Forces and Putin’s appearances at non-military events.

A New York Times investigation of Russian military documents from early in the war supports ISW’s longstanding assessments about how flawed Russian planning assumptions and campaign design decisions plagued Russia’s invasion of Ukraine from its onset.

Ongoing Russian offensive operations around Bakhmut are further driving a wedge between forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic and Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Wagner Group troops.

The US Central Intelligence Agency assesses that the Kremlin is not serious about negotiations with Ukraine, agreeing with a longstanding ISW assessment.

Ukrainian forces conducted counterattacks near Svatove and Kreminna and continue to strike Russian rear areas.

Russian forces continued offensive operations near Bakhmut and Avdiivka-Donetsk City.

Ukrainian officials warned that Russian forces may be attempting to draw Ukrainian forces into a trap on the east (left) bank of the Dnipro River.

Russia may be conducting an information operation falsely connecting ongoing negotiations on the demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to a prospective future Ukrainian counteroffensive in Zaporizhia Oblast.

Several Russian sources denounced a military commissar's claim that Russian authorities will extend the service period for conscript soldiers. An extension of the legal mandatory service period would not be necessary to keep current conscripts in the field, however, as all former conscripts are reservists, and all reservists are already eligible for mobilization

The New York Times showed a detailed plan of the Russians' movement to Kyiv, provided by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine. The document shows that the first column of Russian OMON and SOBR units were heading to Kyiv.
According to a Russian serviceman stationed in Belarus, on February 23, he learned that he was going to war - an hour before his unit started marching. The order was both simple and extremely optimistic: follow the vehicle ahead and reach Kyiv within 18 hours.
According to the timetable and the unit's logbook obtained by the publication, the first vehicles in his convoy were to leave Belarus and arrive on the outskirts of Kyiv by 14:55, even sooner than the soldier had been told.

These documents were reviewed by three independent military analysts and found to be authentic.

I’m not sure I necessarily agree, Vera Lynn for example is well known for her β€˜morale boosting’ songs. There is a reason they sent beautiful women to entertain men that haven’t seen their partners etc. for months or years.

Still clearly nothing is going to boost the morale of the Russian army at this point.

Agreed on the principle but it's the concept that a bit of music and dancing will invigorate your morale when you have very poor kit, rations, guns and sleeping bags and you're being pounded by Ukrainian weoponry!

there are stories that some Russians have to walk 30miles to get any food or water. that sounds a bit extreme to me but even Putin has said there are serious problems with clothing supplies.
