Damn Dog Shit.

Yet another 20 minutes of my life scraping dog shit off my kids' shoes. Was dark, couldn't see the path, suddenly noticed the stench, there it is.

This is all too commonplace.
What can we do about it?

I tell you something OP.

I live close to an industrial estate... it's quite green and lovely to walk my dog especially at the weekend. From there you can walk through some woods into the fields- it's a public footpath.

Sadly, I had to stop - especially in the summer months. It's not because of the other dog owners ot dog shit which can be a problem. Nope it's actually human excrement that is left behind bushes and in the woods! Utterly vile!

You can ban humans too if you like. Not sure why we think we're the only worthy inhabitants of our planet

Really sorry I've not managed to reply to everyone's posts. I've got shit to do now so offline for a while.

To sum up:

  • yes I was ranting as it was so so awful and I'm really fed up of dealing with the problem
  • yes, I think something really needs to be done. Funded by those who choose to keep dogs. DNA, CCTV, wardens, street-cleaning machines/pressure washers. That would help. Fund dog parks specifically for dogs to be. No shitting allowed elsewhere.
  • ban dogs from places where not everyone wants to encounter them - eateries, supermarkets, shops, art galleries, cinemas
  • yes, cats should be kept indoors
  • fox/bird/mouse shit is inconsequential

Again, guide dogs are allowed everywhere. Blind people need to go to the supermarket too.

Well they are allowed and they do - I suspect it will continue to be so until the end of time.

I suspect so too, because careless owners do not give a shite about anyone else.

Thanks for picking up. Must be the minority though.

Definitely not in the minority. The majority of dog owners pick up after them. About 34% of UK households have a dog (or more than 1 dog). In my town there's about 1000 houses so about 340 of them will have a dog. That's about 680 new shits a day. There are without a doubt no where near that many new shits on the streets every day. No where near. It's the odd disgusting owner who is to blame. I have a dog and in her 3 years I can only think of one time when I didn't pick up her poo. It was so runny that day that I literally couldn't pick it up. I know loads of dog owners and every single one of them picks up after their dog. Don't give us all the same bad reputation.

I have a 100% will defo work solution but do it in dead of darkness.

i covered the poo and around the trees/grassy area in sherbet. Put up a sign saying “I’ve put down laxative so you can have shit in your house too.”

no one walks their down down our road anymore.

I'm a dig owner and I do agree that every dog owner should puck up their dogs shit, and I think the idea of a licence is good because there needs ti be more poo bins and round here we have biodegradable poo bags available by the poo bins this is also essential even the most responsible dog owner will very occasionally forget a poo bag or run out. And there needs to be a moree effective way or catching/reporting owners who are irresponsible and yes they should be fined.
But you do show a lack of understanding of dogs how when saying that dogs should only poo in their gardens it is not workable, exercise and grass stimulates a dogs desire to to a poo so this morning for example I let my dogs out and one always poos in the garden but will do 2 more when I walk him 30 mins later which I always pick it up. It's also not possible for a dog to only pee in the garden dogs pee to leave a scent mark for other dogs you cannot go against their natural physical requirements/instincts however much training you do even guide dog are let off their leads to be allowed to pee/poo every day.
I do agree dogs shouldn't be allowed in cafes and shops this seems to be a never increasing trend I never take mine into cafes and shops because I'm aware that many people when sitting down having a cup of coffee don't like dogs and therefore would be uncomfortable with one in a relatively confined space and dogs don't need to be there.

I wish more owners were as considerate as you. Everywhere I go now it feels like there’s a dog there! And I’m not talking about the park etc where you’d expect to find them but trains,
Cafes etc.

I hear you OP. The amount of times I've cleaned shoes, the pram & balance bike wheels. It's infuriating- I don't know what the answer is as good owners already pick up, read Facebook community announcements.

My middle once tripped over the pavement slab outside his school and went sliding into dog poop, we had to make a u turn back home as his coat & trousers absolutely hummed (they went straight in the bin) . I have noted a lot more dogs waiting for owners outside the gate in the past two years which is a real struggle getting out of the school gates without being jumped at/ tripping over leads alongside looking for poo/ watching kids.

You might want to mention it to the school so they ask dog owners to control their dogs and leave space for people especially children to walk through without feeling intimidated.

ugh that’s awful about your son falling on the dog poo.

Same shite, different day. Sick of it too.

I want dog licences brought back but MUCH MUCH more expensive than they were. It needs to fund dog wardens, and a dna database of dogs, matching up the shit every time it’s spotted, owners HEAVILY fined, dog taken away after first warning. I really don’t think this is unreasonable. Why should we have to deal with dog shit? Ideally, I don’t even want dogs shitting in public: want a dog, train it to shit in your own back yard.
if we can stop them pissing all over where we walk too, that would be great. In which decent nation do we find letting millions of dogs piss on our streets. Gross.

They do this in Germany I believe. Wardens dna test poo & fine the owners

That’s good to know. Here’s hoping they do it worldwide. No idea why dog owners think the rest of us want to walk through pavements and paths full of shit and urine.

Not all dog owners are twats.
