Damn Dog Shit.

DuckWalkedUpToALemonadeStand · 29/11/2022 19:47

Yet another 20 minutes of my life scraping dog shit off my kids' shoes. Was dark, couldn't see the path, suddenly noticed the stench, there it is.

This is all too commonplace.
What can we do about it?

Oh and I do notice when dog people are swinging their little bag of dog shit around, and I think they look like suckers. Still, better than leaving a big steaming pile, but there'll still be traces of shit left behind.

What I really want is for it to be socially unacceptable/illegal for dogs to shit in public. You want a dog, train it to shit in your own garden. Or put a nappy on it.

We don't go around shitting in the street. Even if we scooped it up, it would be a disgusting thing to do. Yet we're complacent about dogs doing it.

Dog poo is unpleasant when on your shoes, bike wheels or pram wheels. Very selfish of owners not to pick it up. However it is borderline cruel putting nappies on a healthy dog and expecting an animal to poo on command. Dogs’ toilet urges tend to be stimulated by excercise, grass walks and interesting smells. To be honest I don’t particularly like babies and toddlers swimming in pools with those pretend swimmer nappies on that semi hold in any turd they might squeeze out whilst in the water. Their urine of course just flows out. Lovely. And then kids that do wees and poos in public? Do we get social services to take them away after the first offence? Nah didn’t think so. Not happening with dogs either. Dogs are revered in uk and if anything are being allowed in more snd more spaces now: hotels, restaurants, cafes. I think that chances of your wishes coming true are less than you might hope

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/11/2022 01:04

My 75yo dad slipped in dog poo and broke his shoulder and elbow. It's not just minging and inconvenient, it's dangerous.Angry

People who don't pick up their dog shit, shouldn't have dogs.

socialmedia23 · 30/11/2022 01:05

DuckWalkedUpToALemonadeStand · 30/11/2022 00:52

Then they can poo in their house. Their choice to own a dog, their choice to deal with dog shit. Not fair on the rest of us.

Isn't cat poo unpleasant too? But we allow cats to roam. What is your view on cats?

Israel has lots of feral cats so I suspect the cat owners there are not so cavalier about letting their pet cats roam...

This is the most ridiculous thread I've ever read! Talk about first world problems 🤣 you must be in total bonkers land thinking DNA testing on dog turds would ever be a reality. And stopping dogs from doing their business in public 🤣 are you going to start rounding up cats and foxes too, get them all together in the town hall and lecture them on proper defecating etiquette 🤣

It does boggle my mind why people don't pick up after their dogs (I think some people don't like the idea of handling it, others 'conveniently' don't notice, others think it biodegrades I guess?!) I'm along one of the dog owners who cheerfully holds onto my bag of shit, much preferable to the latter option as much as you may mock me lol

You mustn't have been on MN long then.

I see nothing wrong with wanting pavements clean of shit. That you seem fine dealing with dog shit says a lot about you. No standards.

Read the post. Dog shit DNA is a thing elsewhere. Hope it makes it to these shores soon.

All dog food should have something added to make the poo glow in the dark. I can remember shouting "mind that" about 100 times a day when me & my brother were out & about.

Agreed.

Agree... I think most dog owners pick up but obviously even that isn't good enough for OP

It's not, really. I really don't understand why as a nation it's seen as ok to have dog's shit where we walk. I'd really like to see a push on this to get people who have dogs to get them to shit in their own homes.

All dogs should have their dna registered. All dog poo checked. Massive fines to pay for this.

Having to fork out £1000 for the first offence, more for the second, might make people think twice.

And please don't bleat on about how that is unfair. Have a dog if you must, take responsibility or pay the fine.

I actually looked into this. I work in housing and also am a dog poo picker upperer. It's prohibitively expensive for what you would realistically get back from people. It's often people with little money, you'd pay for the test, pay for enforcement, pay for legal actions and they still wouldn't give you any money.

I don't know what the answer is but it's not that.

Well now you're just outing yourself as someone who hates dogs.

Mine went for a shit in the garden this morning but - because the bowels are stimulated by exercise - he went for another two while out on his walk (yes, both picked up).

Have you ever needed the loo while out shopping, at work or in another public place? I suppose you didn't just hold it in indefinitely until you got home, even if you went to the loo first thing that morning.

I feel so lucky to live in a nice area, makes me so happy whilst scraping someone's dog's shit off my son's trainers.

You miss my point.

People in less naice areas have bigger fish to fry - if you lived in one you'd probably be more worried about anything from county lines to rampant flytipping.

People in naice areas have fewer things to complain about and - in the absence of things like gangs and flytipping - they default to dog shit, because everyone wants something to moan about to the council and social media.

I think the huge number of dogs and the dog nuttery abounding is a problem. It's insane to me that they are now in cafes and restaurants and shops. So unsanitary. I don't think it's fair to those of us who don't want to deal with dogs and their shit.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Literally saw a near-identical post on FB but it was an elderly lady who had slipped in it and was covered and very badly bruised/sprained wrist. I hope he's making a good recovery. 💐

I cannot fucking stand irresponsible dog owners, it’s even made me go off dogs because if I’m not dodging dog poo, I’m dodging loose dogs running at you full force covered in mud and soaking wet from whatever nearby stream there is. And then the dog owners smile at you and go “he’s so friendly though!” Fantastic - I just want to walk past, remain clean and not step in shit. You have a nice day though dear, clearly your right trump mine. How dare I exist where your dog does.

Ugh, I need sleep.

It's gross. Wrecked my herb garden rendering it unsalvageable. I don't like cats primarily for the damage they cause to wildlife. I'd like to see their numbers dwindle, really, and have more wildlife, especially birds.

And yet the authorities - Environmental Health - don't agree with you. Dogs are legally allowed in food serving areas, but not food preparation areas (e.g. kitchens).

If you don't like dog friendly eateries, take your custom elsewhere. I'm sure the owners have factored the loss of income from dog haters into their business plan, offset from additional income from dog lovers.

Exactly why people who want to own dogs should fund it. Licences and fines. Can't pay for the licence, can't have a dog.

I said Is that a pee in the floor?

Then So irresponsible to leave it there for someone to slip on

The owner couldn't give a shit.

Awful behaviour.

Call out owners who leave poo behind whenever you see it.

Lazy, entitled gits.

momlette · 30/11/2022 01:35

well maybe count yourself lucky OP that you just stepped in the poo and didn’t slip on it or face plant in to a steaming freshly laid pile. You’d have looked like a right turd.

I don't like dogs. Not least because I don't like dealing with their shit on a regular basis. You've caught me on a bad day because today's excrement was especially noxious, especially dug in to every tread on one trainers and several of the other, up the sides of one trainer, and of such a voluminous amount it must have been a ginormous beast to lay such a mushy turd. I got as much of it off as possible whilst out, and will put them through the washing machine tomorrow, which may well wreck his new trainers. And I'll feel gross about it going in my washing machine too.

I really don't understand the desire to have dog's when there's 15 years of their rank shit to clean up.

Don't take your dogs out further from your home then, that you can't get back to in time if they need to shit. It needs to be socially unacceptable to let them shit out and about.

I didn't miss your point. Think you missed mine though. We definitely have serious other issues here too, including a recent stabbing (young man died). I can still be repulsed about cleaning mushy rancid dog shit off my kids' trainers yet again. Believe me, I'd really rather not have it as a problem to moan about.

Wow. That's outrageous. Though maybe if dogs pissing on floors in shops enough is what it takes for people to ban them from shops and restaurants, that would be a happy result.

My friend was in a cafe recently and a dog shat on the floor. It was really runny, and people just left.

It was a rant about yet again cleaning shit off shoes, with a call for something to change, because yes, I am fucking sick of dealing with it. Something has to change. It is not fair at all.

What would make me happy:
Dogs on a database, owners fined heavily for letting their dogs shit in public. Dogs trained to shit at home. If your dog is about to shit when out, catch it in a receptacle. Don't shit where we have to walk. I really don't think this is unreasonable.

Someone trod dog shit right into my house and I was so repulsed I actually took up the carpet. Now even trades have to take shoes off.

I say this as a dog owner..but some dogs have voluminous turds {I wouldn't want such a big dog because of a large bore anus and huge poos}

I don't even like dogs much, but even I think you all need to calm down! (However if I see someone miss a pooh I do holler at them to pick it up!)

Try going to Paris, it's absolutely EVERYWHERE. Really gross!
