Just wondering, no one of my friends pulled it off.

Three people I was at university with in the 80s have done so, one has three children. Whereas one of mine is now in a same-sex relationship.

Parky04 · 18/11/2022 08:52

3 of my DS21 friends who were in long term relationships with girls from school have all broken up this year.

Fuuuuuckit · 18/11/2022 08:52

I knew my dp at school - we had huge sparks but both had boyfriend/girlfriend so didn't do anything but lust at each other plus a cheeky snog.

Sporadic contact then met up again 13 years ago when both getting divorced, couldn't be happier.

Yup me, met when I was 15. Happily married

westthroughthewhitleywood · 18/11/2022 08:55

I have one friend who is engaged to her first boyfriend who she met at school. Neither have ever been with anyone else. But she's early 20's so they've not been together very long in the grand scheme of things. I guess it could still go either way.

Needahousename · 18/11/2022 08:56

I went to secondary school with my husband, we didn’t get together until just after sixth form as I had a boyfriend through sixth form. So not my first boyfriend but we got together uni age.
We’ve been together 16yrs and married 8yrs :)

meow1989 · 18/11/2022 08:56

Dh and and I didn't go to school or uni together but met when I was 16 and he 19. Still together 17 years on, married, house, ds... no intention of trading him in Grin

Cantbebotheredwithchores · 18/11/2022 08:56

Yes, met at 13, been together 21 years and now been married 8 years.
We've grew up together

Takingturnstogether · 18/11/2022 08:57

Met him while I was at uni ( he was working). Married 30 years. He was my first boyfriend.

No regrets!

Lilgamesh2 · 18/11/2022 08:57

Weirdly, 3 (out of 4) of my housemates from uni are with the same person they were with when they were 15!

I'm with my boyfriend from first term of first year at uni. I have many friends from uni in a similar situation.
We're 35 now.

greaterscott · 18/11/2022 08:58

I am, and I've got two friends who are.

Swearwolf · 18/11/2022 08:58

Not my first boyfriend, but together since 19 and at uni.

DutchessOfMuck · 18/11/2022 08:58

I met dh when I was 18 and he was 20. We have been together nearly 24 years now.

Bluedoritos · 18/11/2022 09:00

Me! And know 2 other couples who got together around the same time that are still together now. We've all been together about 15 years now.

The things that the lot of us have in common is that we all went to uni, didn't get engaged particularly young, didn't have kids young. It seems all of us have the same mindsets of supporting partners to succeed in their careers and not try and hold each other back or tie each other down too much too young iyswim.

Giggorata · 18/11/2022 09:02

I went out with DH as a teenager and we got together again years later, post my divorce and DC.

bloooskai · 18/11/2022 09:03

Watching with interest. My 18yo DS has been with his gf for 5 years, and they may end up as lifelong partners. He comes from a long line of loyal men!

spiderlight · 18/11/2022 09:03

One couple I knew at school got together when they were about 14/15, ended up getting married, and stayed together until well into their 40s, although they are now divorced.

stuffnthings · 18/11/2022 09:05

Yep, met at 17, went to different universities, but stayed together throughout, then continued afterwards. Together, married and 2 DC over 25 years until my DW very sadly died last year from cancer.

Changechangychange · 18/11/2022 09:05

DH and I met at uni, but neither of us were each other’s first boyfriend/girlfriend. Got together in 2nd year (so aged 21, we’d both taken gap years), now aged 44.

Having said that, I’m not sure we’ll still be together aged 50 - DH is either going through a midlife crisis or just fundamentally doesn’t like being tied down by a wife and children, not clear which yet. Things change when you have children, and people don’t always change in the same direction.

junebirthdaygirl · 18/11/2022 09:07

Friend from college married nearly 40 years to college bf. Married one year after graduation. Probably happiest marriage in our circle.
Few other couples from college still together and look pretty happy but l wouldn't know them well enough to know any details.

Numsmetbunfight · 18/11/2022 09:08

Three couples from a tight friendship group at Uni in the 90's are still together. I find it most odd. Husband also has three couples from his Uni days still together.

bonetala · 18/11/2022 09:11

My parents are, as are all of their group of friends (6 couples) 2 people have sadly died recently but no divorces etc and they are now all late 60's. I think it's pretty impressive considering they all met and got together aged 18 ish Smile

DowntonCrabby · 18/11/2022 09:11

Myself and 2 school friends are still with boyfriends we’ve had since 18/19, not quite first boyfriends and we’d all left school but yes, all married now and together 20 odd years.

LJFred · 18/11/2022 09:11

Yep. I’d been with a few guys before him but nothing serious. Met at 15 & 16, started going out a year later, still together 13 years and a gaggle of kids later. We just get on really well!

Thesearmsofmine · 18/11/2022 09:12

I’m not but I’m really surprised by how many from my school are still together over 20 years later,
