Just wondering, no one of my friends pulled it off.

I met my ExH at 18 and we were together for 22 years. Divorced now but still friends. Couple of friends have been together since teenagers and in their 50s now. My neice met her fiancé during uni freshers week and they are getting married next year. They are both 31 now. My mum and dad met when she was 16 and he was 19. They are still together 55 years later.

We are! Met when I was 16 (he was 18) still married now (late 30s) it's not been easy and there have been bumps in the road but we laugh together everyday and I think that's really important as life can be tough! Smile

Met my DH at uni, when we were on the same postgraduate course. I had no idea he liked me until close to the end of the course, by which point I was moving back to London. I wasn't looking for a long distance relationship so left it as that.

A year later, I moved back to the university town. Randomly bumped into DH in Tesco. Exchanged mobile numbers and the rest is history. December will make it 18 years since we've been together and we celebrated our 12th year wedding anniversary in September. Our kids think our story is soppy but I love it.

Between me and my five closest friends (we met at school) four have no contact, at all, altho may say hello in passing and two married theirs! We’re all thirty, or thereabouts.

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 18/11/2022 11:11

Yep, got together at 14. He has abused and controlled me pretty much ever since. Wish I'd never met him. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Certainly tell my dds to go and live and experience the world and be in no rush to settle down. Ever.

Me. Met when we were 16, together at 17. Separate unis so did long distance. Moved in together at 23. First baby at 25. 2nd baby at 26. Married at 27. Moved house at 28. Now we're 30 and very happy with no big life events coming up for a little while!

PottyDottyDotPot · 18/11/2022 11:18

My best friend has been married to her DH for almost 35 years, they met when they were 16 and 27.
One of my relatives has been with her DH for 40 years, they have been together since they were both 13.

weebarra · 18/11/2022 11:23

DH and I got together in our first year of uni, not my first boyfriend though.
We're now 45 and three DCs later, we are still happily married.
I think we've grown together rather than apart although we have had tough times - I had breast cancer, one of our DCs was very seriously I'll at birth and 2/3 are neurodiverse.
I know maybe 3 or 4 couples with similar situations.

larkstar · 18/11/2022 11:24

Started going out aged 12.5 - still together at 61.

Tubbytele · 18/11/2022 11:24

Yep. Met DH during college at 16, got together at 18 and then married with 2 DC :)

CoodleMoodle · 18/11/2022 11:24

DH and I met at sixth form, he was my third boyfriend, I was his second girlfriend. Went to uni together (different courses), got married and had 2DC. Still very happy!

Mycatsgoldtooth · 18/11/2022 11:26

Been together 25 years. Only difficult thing is they remember you being a twat when you were young. Sometimes wish I’d met him when I was 28 and a proper sorted grown up.

KillingLoneliness · 18/11/2022 11:28

I have 4 people in my family who are all still with their childhood boyfriends (two are older family members (50’s) and the other two are younger family members (20’s) also both of my mothers best friends are still married to their first boyfriends.
My DH isn’t my first boyfriend but we’ve been together since we were 19/20.

maddy68 · 18/11/2022 11:31

Yes me. Met my husband when I was 16. Been together 36 years

I agree ! We have been together since our early 20s and no chance to reinvent yourself as they know everything about you

LindaEllen · 18/11/2022 11:44

I know of one couple who are. They got together when they were 14, got married when they were 25, went on to buy a house and a dog, and had a baby just over a year ago.

They both have good jobs, are both very good looking, and are highly talented in their respective hobbies.

Basically they're the couple everyone wants to be.

Comefromaway · 18/11/2022 11:46

I met dh at 17

Smallorangecat · 18/11/2022 11:47

I met DH when I was at university, he was my first proper boyfriend. We were together for nearly 20 years until he died. My parents also met at university and some of my siblings are married to people they met at university but I they had long-term partners before.

RustyBear · 18/11/2022 11:49

I am, we met at Exeter in 1974 and we celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary this year (48 years since we met) DH’s best friend from uni married my best friend and they are still married 43 years later; another friend at uni came up engaged to her first boyfriend, and they are still married 45 years later.

ARoastPotato · 18/11/2022 11:50

I am- 15 years together now. My husband’s brother is married to his secondary school girlfriend 15 years on and his sister is married to her university boyfriend 10 years on.

Of a group of about 35, about 10 of us are still with uni partners.

Bubbles2022 · 18/11/2022 11:51

I am.
We got together at 14. We are now 33. Married with a child.

Loachworks · 18/11/2022 11:51

DC1 has. They got together at 16, he's now 27. They bought a house together at 23 and recently became engaged. No children planned yet but their wedding is booked.

MissPiggysPinkDress · 18/11/2022 12:11

We met when we were 18 and 21, and still together 20 years later. Both of us had very casual BF/GF before getting together, but nothing serious

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 18/11/2022 12:18

The only couple I know from school who married, their marriage lasted 3 years. Married at 19, and by 21 she was shagging his (25 year older) uncle.

She and Uncle ended up married, family all took uncles side and my friend still doesn't speak to his family nearly 20 years later

IDontWantToBeAPie · 18/11/2022 12:19

I'm with my uni boyfriend still. Met on the first day and been together 10 years now. Still going strong but I know it's not all that long in the grand scheme.
