How often do you clean your house?

I would just like to know everyone’s cleaning routines so that I can try and establish one of my own!

I keep the house as clean as possible (although it’s often quickly undone with toddler running around undoing everything the second I tidy up!).

But how often do you deep clean the bathroom? Hoover & mop? Clean the windows?

Also… why is it that my shower screen gets covered in stubborn hard to scrub off water marks every bloody day!!! It’s actually hard work scrubbing the whole screen!!

I got rid of our shower screen as the water marks drove me mad so you have my sympathies OP! Shower curtain gets chucked in the washing machine.

We hoover living room every other day. Bedrooms etc once a week. Same with bathrooms unless an obvious mess. Wipe down kitchen at least daily as worktops get messy. I don't mop very often. We used to have a cleaner and she was amazing at mopping but I hate it, also hate windows cleaning!

cookiecreammmpie · 17/11/2022 21:18

Hoover about twice a day, mop once a day, I wipe down the bathroom and clean the toilet every day and deep clean it properly about once a week. I've got 4 kids though and majority of the mess comes from them.

Santagiveyoursackawash · 17/11/2022 21:19

Blitzed this month. Wing it the rest of the year....

BertieBotts · 17/11/2022 21:21

It's not really a thing that I do in a routine, i just let it go until it bothers me.

I think you're meant to get a squeegee for a shower screen, that's supposed to help a lot.

greaterscott · 17/11/2022 21:24

I wish I had a proper routine!

I just tend to wander about and do things when I see they need doing, so I'll clean the sink after brushing my teeth for example. Then I might look at the bathroom floor and think that needs cleaning and do that. I don't seem to have the focus to do a whole room in one go 😬

Stressfordays · 17/11/2022 21:24

Usually a big clean once a week so hoovering throughout, mopping, scrub the bathrooms, dusting/wiping round, scrub kitchen and changing the beds. Takes approx 3 hours.

I hoover daily downstairs, spot clean the laminate, quick wipe around of bathrooms and kitchen daily. About 30-60 mins. Also at least 1 load of washing a day. 1 adult and 3 under 10s in the house and I work full time (shifts so I usually get a day to clean while dc at school)

Stressfordays · 17/11/2022 21:26

Oh and big things like de-cluttering, Windows, scrubbing out cupboards all get done as and when, usually added into my cleaning day as I notice it needs doing. I did my big clean today and cleared out a few kitchen cupboards while I was in there.

Rachell1 · 17/11/2022 21:27

Don’t you sometimes just feel like all you ever do is tidy up and clean?!

I do have a squeegee for the screen but literally can never be bothered to use it after a shower which I know is laziness on my part so perhaps I should get into the habit of using it!

Really I should be mopping every day (bloody shiny tiled kitchen floor which shows EVERY mark possible) but it’s SO long winded waiting for it to dry and trying to keep toddler from running all over it!

Also… dust…. Why. Why is it a thing.

As for the windows, my mother in law cleans her windows about once a week, so DP thinks thats the norm. I mean…. Is it? Because in all honesty I didn’t even think window cleaning existed. 🤣

Does your DP clean your windows weekly?

Nanalisa60 · 17/11/2022 21:29

November is my deep clean month whole house gets a deep clean a really deep clean , kitchen cupboards emptied and cleaned, all bedroom draws and wardrobes emptied and sorted, loads usually thrown out. All windows washed blinds cleaned, and even under beds cleaned all woodwork washed. It usually takes the whole of November to deep clean the whole house , then decks up first weekend in December. The rest of the year just do a bit every week.

PeloFondo · 17/11/2022 21:31

Method daily shower spray! Get the passion fruit one, it smells nice and you just spray it after a shower and leave it (don't rinse)
I can't remember when I last needed to clean the screen

How do you fit it all in? Dp you hoover in the morning and again in the evening? By the time I get home from work I have very little energy.

Pebbles16 · 17/11/2022 21:32

Once a week for deep clean (dusting, hoovering. mopping, wiping the fridge, polishing etc). Daily wipe around for kitchen and bathroom. Windows about once a quarter - same for wiping inside of cupboards etc

Rachell1 · 17/11/2022 21:32

@Mynoodlesareoodles Truly this whole window cleaning business has caused a couple of unnecessary arguments recently! He actually cleans them.. not because he wants to and he will not touch the rest of the house.. but simply to piss me off and prove a point! He thinks they are filthy if he sees one finger mark on them. I don’t even notice tbh. I tend to leave the blinds on an angle these days to avoid any debates!

When I can be bothered, work and sleep gets in the way.

Rachell1 · 17/11/2022 21:33

@PeloFondo off to buy it tomorrow!!

Remind him weekly that it's window cleaning time then

I call bullshit. No way you fully clean your bathroom every day

fjäl · 17/11/2022 21:38

I wipe round in the bathroom every time I'm in there - wipe round the sink, toilet if it needs it etc. The shower/bath/tiles gets cleaned every time it's used by me (daily) sporadically by DH when he remembers. Kitchen gets a wipe over everyday, by both of us. Husband mostly does the dishes and the hob because I hate it. I vacuum once a week or two if I'm busy. Dust once a week. Not a set routine, just if I have a free afternoon. I don't deep clean regularly, maybe a spring clean and one before Christmas.

Who the hell has time to vacuum twice a day!? I'd have to be up at 4 hoovering before work!

trampoline123 · 17/11/2022 21:38

We're both at work full time and kids at childminder.

Daily: keep on top of washing up and try and keep tidy
Once a week: hoover through, mop, clean kitchen, clean bathroom
Every 2 weeks I do the above but also change all the bedding and dust each room
When I can be bothered I wipe the inside windows in front room

Weekends and when I'm home with the kids I hoover daily.

Yes! I feel like all last weekend I cooked and cleaned all bloody weekend and it's still a mess 😭😂

Itstheway · 17/11/2022 21:40

Hoover all of house and wipe sides everyday, mop every other day. Washing machine is constantly on and theirs only me and DH!

StClare101 · 17/11/2022 21:45

DH and I clean the kitchen every night as we clean up after dinner. We wipe down all surfaces, clean the sink etc. Vacuum as required. Toilets and vanities get cleaned at least every few days. We have a fortnightly cleaner who does the rest.

Except windows which we do when we can’t bear it anymore. Last weekend as it happens! It takes hours.

Rachell1 · 17/11/2022 21:45

I never thought I’d say this but.. kinda do miss when Mrs Hinch only ever really posted videos of herself cleaning.. it did actually help motivate me in a weird way. Very sad isn’t it? 😆
