How often do you clean your house?

I would just like to know everyone’s cleaning routines so that I can try and establish one of my own!

I keep the house as clean as possible (although it’s often quickly undone with toddler running around undoing everything the second I tidy up!).

But how often do you deep clean the bathroom? Hoover & mop? Clean the windows?

Also… why is it that my shower screen gets covered in stubborn hard to scrub off water marks every bloody day!!! It’s actually hard work scrubbing the whole screen!!

It depends on work in the week for me... big clean once a week and I do 10 minute tidy ups through the day if I'm WFH. If I'm on site (I'm an account manager so visit my team and clients through the week varying days) I tidy away and do dishes/wipe counters/brush and mop on those days usually.

I no longer have a toddler but it's fighting a losing battle cleaning while there's a little'un running about!

LoveAngelLove · 17/11/2022 21:49

The Organised Mum Method.

Without the weekly cleaning of bed sheets though. Nonsense.

Look it up - TOMM. It's changed the way I keep my house.

Tiggy321 · 17/11/2022 21:51

People Hoover every day?? I thought my house (large) was relatively clean - no cleaner, just me! But I work full time and no way I am hoovering at 7pm ! I do some form of cleaning every day- wipe down bathroom sinks, clean loos, sweep kitchen floor, empty bins but all the other stuff has to wait until the weekend. How do people find the time ?

SweetPetrichor · 17/11/2022 21:52

Hoover, dust/straighten up, clean bathrooms once a week.
Kitchen wiped down daily when dishes done.

Life’s too short to be cleaning everyday on top of working full time!

CambsAlways · 17/11/2022 21:54

Somuchtolearnabout you calling me a liar! I clean both bathrooms everyday! You do not live with me so have no clue, for your information I’m retired!!

Sodullincomparison · 17/11/2022 21:55

All we do is clean and clean and clean.

We clean bathrooms, change bedding, Hoover, clean bathrooms and kitchen every Saturday.

midweek, kitchen and living room are cleaned with more laundry.

everyday, we do dishes and wipe down the kitchen.

so boring…

frozendaisy · 17/11/2022 21:55

No one ever says on their death bed "I wish I had done more cleaning"

Fit in cleaning around the life bits you would rather do OP.

Tiredmum100 · 17/11/2022 21:31

How do you fit it all in? Dp you hoover in the morning and again in the evening? By the time I get home from work I have very little energy.

I'm a stay at home mum, small house. It takes ten mins to hoover the living room. Then when it needs doing again later, I'll go over it again quickly. I hoover upstairs only about twice a week. If I left it it would just be a disgrace.

Rachell1 · 17/11/2022 21:56

The one thing I have realized is that I need to be happy in my home in order to keep it nice and clean (consistently).

Our last house never felt like home for various reasons and I just never had the get up and go to clean up and make it nice.

I suppose as with most things.. you have to like something in order to want to look after it!

Hoover every 2-3 days
Mop 1 x a week
Surface clean (kitchen) and 'floor' tidy (aka toys 🤣) once a day
Big clean in kitchen 1 x a week
Big clean in living room 1 x a week
Big clean bathrooms 1 x week
Washing done and put away daily

Deep clean??? Pretty much never 😭😭😭. I honestly struggle for the time, but it makes me so anxious and upset that the skirting boards, windows, fridge, oven, corners, pictures, bookshelves and many many many more things need attention.

My home always seems chaotic despite my efforts

somethingdifferent789 · 17/11/2022 21:58

The organised mum method...the only way your house will be clean but it is hard work.

Everyday jobs include wiping over the bathrooms and bleaching loos, put a load of washing on and a load away, clean down kitchen and dishes, sinks, hoover busy areas everyday.
Plus a room everyday
Monday is living room day so you hoover under couches, tv units, rugs, clean any glass including windows, polish etc

Tues is clean sheets and bedrooms cleaned and tidied including any windows in the bedrooms

Wed hallways - hoover stairs, wipe skirtings, clean any glass etc

Thurs kitchen day so you mite do oven, or microwave, clean away any clutter, mop

Friday is Friday focus Day where you focus your attention on a job that needs done like sorting out a wardrobe or cleaning an oven or cleaning blinds that sort of thing, the jobs that get done usually monthly or longer.

Sat and sun is just the day to day stuff

bonzaitree · 17/11/2022 21:59

I just do little and often. 20 mins here and 20 mins there. Then it never becomes an insurmountable nightmare!

having said that drying sheets and towels is a nightmare at the moment!

Lcb123 · 17/11/2022 21:59

We always use the squeegee for the shower screen and I barely ever have to clean the screen, makes such a difference- and we live in hard water area. Worth a few seconds after a shower. Otherwise daily things like dishwasher, wipe surfaces. Hoover couple of times a week. Live in a flat so quick to whip round. Bathroom once a week

bonzaitree · 17/11/2022 22:00

I learned that if I let it build up I leave it longer and longer until it becomes this massive task that takes hours. Not good for my MH.

just off to do 20 mins now- thanks for the reminder OP!

Hoolihan · 17/11/2022 22:02

Wipe down kitchen and bathroom surfaces daily as I go along. Hoover once a fortnight maybe, mop when we're expecting visitors or there's a spillage. Dusting when I notice. Windows never, shower screen never, deep clean never.

PieonaBarm · 17/11/2022 22:03

I've got a cream gloss tiled kitchen floor. Buy one of these mops and spray the floor with windolene or own brand equivalent. It's brilliant and dries straight away!

Don’t you sometimes just feel like all you ever do is tidy up and clean?!

I do have a squeegee for the screen but literally can never be bothered to use it after a shower which I know is laziness on my part so perhaps I should get into the habit of using it!

Really I should be mopping every day (bloody shiny tiled kitchen floor which shows EVERY mark possible) but it’s SO long winded waiting for it to dry and trying to keep toddler from running all over it!

Also… dust…. Why. Why is it a thing.

As for the windows, my mother in law cleans her windows about once a week, so DP thinks thats the norm. I mean…. Is it? Because in all honesty I didn’t even think window cleaning existed. 🤣

I have my squeegee hanging on a hook on the window next to the shower. As soon as I've finished showering I wipe the tiles on the ledge of the window and then the shower screen. If I don't do it straight away I CBA and end up with a streaky shower screen. However my standards of cleaning elsewhere dwindle drastically

You're so right. We've just moved and I feel so unmotivated to clean in this house - I just don't feel it.

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 17/11/2022 22:06

I have a cleaner do four hours once a week.

sleepfortheweek · 17/11/2022 22:09

Oh also!!

E cloths make my life 100% easier.

I use them on the shower screen once or twice a week. Use them on my induction gone 1-2 times a day. Use them on my wet walls and splash backs once a weeks.

Best things EVER to take off water marks, just water needed and no streaks left.

Buy yourselves an E cloth and never look back.

carefulcalculator · 17/11/2022 22:10

Honestly? No.

Bathroom and kitchen - important. Everything else - whenever.

We have clean routines/habits so e.g. shoes off = less hoovering, pretty minimal possessions etc. These things help. Kids expected to put things away as routine.

Mezmer · 17/11/2022 22:10

I spend about two hours cleaning one week and then four hours the next. I spend much of my time tidying. My cupboards are all organised. We have a minimalist but cosy house. I don’t need to spend much time to make it really clean as it’s super organised. It’s taken years and years to get this point of constantly recycling, eBay ing and turning stuff out. And coming up with processes and systems. Bloody worth it though.

WalkingOnSonshine · 17/11/2022 22:10

Cleaner does it once a week. 2.5 hours for 4 bed house. They do an 8 hour deep clean once a year.

I spend 10 mins tidying/wipe down per day & then maybe 15-20 mins at the weekend giving it a hoover and quick mop.

PeloFondo · 17/11/2022 22:15

@Rachell1 here you go
Screen was fitted months ago and the only thing I have done is spray it with the method stuff Blush

How often do you clean your house?
GemmaFoster · 17/11/2022 22:16

Just clean things when they need a clean. Toilets a lot. Kitchen floor gets a 30 sec run round a day for crumbs. Used to have a cleaner when I was married, but no need since divorce, house stays a lot tidier.
