How often do you clean your house?

I would just like to know everyone’s cleaning routines so that I can try and establish one of my own!

I keep the house as clean as possible (although it’s often quickly undone with toddler running around undoing everything the second I tidy up!).

But how often do you deep clean the bathroom? Hoover & mop? Clean the windows?

Also… why is it that my shower screen gets covered in stubborn hard to scrub off water marks every bloody day!!! It’s actually hard work scrubbing the whole screen!!

dishes and kitchen done every day.
a more in depth clean of kitchen every week
hoovering 2 or 3 times a week
mopping once a week
sheets every 2or 3 weeks
bathroom once a week although I tidy in there every day
washing machine is on all the time!

We used to do a ‘big clean’ at the weekend but I hated the waste of time. Now I do the ‘organised mum method’ (I really hate the name) so about half an hour a day five days a week, varying which things get done on which days. It’s ok but I teak it to include bathroom cleaning day on a Wednesday as we have a small hallway that takes about 30 seconds only….

wish it was called something else though! Hate the idea it portrays that cleaning is only for the mums, every other human in my house creates mess and should be responsible for some cleaning!!

I go in a sort of cycle but generally, hoover once a week (or put robot hoover round in lounge), dust everywhere once a week, clean bathrooms once a week (a full clean including shower screen). In terms of kitchen we do that every day and clean as we go ie wipe down surfaces after every meal and use dustpan and brush after every meal. Annoying jobs like cleaning skirting boards - maybe twice a year 🙈. Things like getting rid of cobwebs from ceiling, whenever I notice them enough to get annoying, maybe once a month? I know some people do way more than this!

Weekly buy only recently as we finally got a cleaner. I hover kitchen and hallway every day I work from home but not on the day I am in the office. Dh batch cooks on the day he wfh. The kitchen is a bombsite after but I dont mind cleaning it as I hate cooking and we'd live off readymeals if it wasn't for him.

I'm intrigued by how often cleaning skirting boards is mentioned on MN, because I hardly ever do it, but mine never look dirty, despite having dogs that shed like bastards.

Do I have pixies that wipe them down at night-time, and how do I get the pixies to take on the ironing? 🤔

Toomanypressie · 19/11/2022 08:57

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow we have dogs as well, maybe skirting boards was just an example as ours don’t get that dirty either, but I mean things like, the whole wall by where they sleep gets dirty so I clean the wall, moving furniture and hoovering behind it, all the stuff that people might not notice but you know needs doing IYSWIM

Hoover the whole house every other day. Living room gets hoovered everyday as it’s a well used room & we have a toddler 😆
Sweep kitchen every day, mop floor a few times a week.

Spray down kitchen worktops & dining table every day, wipe down sink and taps daily too.

Bathroom gets a proper clean twice a week, I do it once during the week, dh does it at the weekend. Wipe down sinks/bath daily.

Bedrooms get aired every day for a few hours.

We don’t really ever need to do a ‘deep clean’ as such because we do it little and often, so it’s easy to keep on top of.

I can’t relax in an untidy house, it makes me feel abit edge. I usually clean as I’m going along my day, 10 mins here and there, it’s not like I spend a solid 2 hours scrubbing and cleaning.

Our house is quite small too and we don’t have clutter, so this helps.

I hoover and mop all the floors and skirtings daily due to having dogs.
The bathrooms and kitchen get deep cleaned on a Saturday morning.
Washing machine, dishwasher and ovens get deep cleaned at the same time.
I use a bathroom scourer with some cream cleanser on the shower screen and tiles when I get in the shower after cleaning, then rinse it with the shower. Effortless and comes up lovely.
Windows and the outside of the exterior doors are cleaned once a fortnight.

I do wfh alot but really busty at the moment so only do basics on the week. Is anyone like me and think right this weekend going to do a massive spring clean then by the time done 2 hours of say wiping down propely in kitchen. Bathroom. Polishing, dusting vacucum house and it looks really surface tidy just think I can't be bothered now to windows clean out cupboards etc

GridRock · 10/12/2022 11:15

@Rachell1 get a squeegee and use that after each shower, then dry with a towel. You'll never have streaks again! If you want to go mad you could spray it with a vinegar and water solution first.

Those who clean ovens regularly - what is your method? I have not cleaned an oven for years as I've had ones with pyrolytic cleaning, but we've moved and the oven doesn't have that function.

I remember oven cleaning as being a monumental hassle involving horrible amounts of stressful toxic foam everywhere.

I get a firm in every January. They deep clean the double oven, hob and extractor hood. The rest of the year I just wipe up spills and occasionally wipe the doors. Putting an oven liner down has been a real help as spills don’t get baked onto the oven floor. I hate cleaning the oven and this method is the least amount of work. I also got a big tray from Lakeland to fit the shelves in for soaking in cleaning fluid. Then they are much easier to clean. That worked well but getting the professional firm in once a year means I hardly ever have to clean them now. As well as the oven floor liner I put large trays lined with foil under things that are likely to spill. I find that prevention is better than cleaning and also cuts down on the need to use fiercely toxic products.
