Tell me your best porridge topper ideas

My new favourite breakfast - porridge - as it's warm and filling. I cheat and use the sachets. Current fave toppers are chopped banana with a sprinkle of sweet cinnamon.

What else can I try?

I love banana and blueberries in porridge. I also like chopped nuts especially pecans

newtb · 17/11/2022 08:02

Maple syrup

Athenen0ctua · 17/11/2022 08:04

I like cold stewed fruit on top of a bowl of hot porridge. Apple and cinnamon, damsons, rhubarb..

I’ve just had chopped hazelnuts, a sprinkle of cinnamon and a dash of maple syrup.

I also often have:
peanut butter.
rhubarb compote.
raspberries and honey.
blueberries and maple syrup or honey.

YourBestie · 17/11/2022 08:05

Stir in peanut butter.
Honey.
Sachets are no easier than real btw.

KillerSandy · 17/11/2022 08:06

Salt and milk! The best!

PermanentTemporary · 17/11/2022 08:06

Another vote for banana and blueberries, or blueberries with a small dab of honey.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 17/11/2022 08:07

Honey, almonds and chopped or tinned apricots
Pear, hazelnuts and dark choc chips

gingercat02 · 17/11/2022 08:08

Maple syrup
Frozen or fresh berries
Banana
Choc chips
Brown sugar
Chia or linseeds
A bit iof cinnamon or vanilla in the porridge

LoveAngelLove · 17/11/2022 08:08

Extra cold milk or cream.

aroman · 17/11/2022 08:09

Cinnamon, honey and almond butter.

I get jumbo rolled oats and cook them in a pan. It really doesn't take much more time/ effort.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 17/11/2022 08:09

Honey and sunflower and pumpkin seeds for me.

Athenen0ctua · 17/11/2022 08:09

Real oats are just as quick if you add the water or milk the night before then cook in the morning. Raisins or sultanas are even nicer if added the night before as well.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 17/11/2022 08:10

I just pour rolled oats into a bowl (guesseitmate amount!) Pour milk over until it just covers oats and put in microwave for 2 mins. No pan, no sachet easy

onelostsoulswimminginafishbowl · 17/11/2022 08:10

I always cook banana into my porridge to make it sweet and caramel like. Recently I have tried coconut and mango but I don't love it. A dollop of yogurt is nice and blueberries. Oh and peanut butter! Or chopped nuts. I love porridge

YesNoYesNoYesNoYesMaybe · 17/11/2022 08:11

Banana and cashew butter. Trust me on this, it’s amazing. You can buy it in all supermarkets but Aldi had their own brand for a good price recently.

otherwise blueberries and maple syrup. I use frozen and heat them in the pan to defrost. Warm blueberries are 👌

FormerCarer · 17/11/2022 08:12

I love yoghurt stirred through mine especially Greek yoghurt with honey.

AutumnIsMyFavouriteSeason · 17/11/2022 08:12

Can't believe no one has said this yet - raspberries! With flaked almonds..

ShaunaTheSheep · 17/11/2022 08:13

Sachets are just oats portioned out. Buy a bag of oats and use measuring cup (or old yoghurt pot or something)for the oats and milk/water.

My favourites:
Greek yoghurt (cools it and makes it creamier)
Ready to eat dried apricots
Syrup from a jar of preserved ginger
Blueberries (from the freezer to minimise waste)
Stewed pear or apple
Dried cranberries
Nuts
A sprinkle of spice

RoseyLentil · 17/11/2022 08:15

Apple, pear, kiwi and yoghurt is my topping of the moment Grin

gogohmm · 17/11/2022 08:16

Nutmeg and cream, though I use oats

ShaunaTheSheep · 17/11/2022 08:16

If you have coffee syrups in the house , a dash is nice in porridge - pumpkin spice currently.

Disneygirl37 · 17/11/2022 08:17

Tinned rhubarb is really good in porridge

Quisquam · 17/11/2022 08:20

I totally agree - fantastic!

CarrieMoonbeams · 17/11/2022 08:22

Normally, as a PP said, salt and cold milk.

However, my breakfast of champions last Christmas was a full mince pie plopped on top and a lake of single cream 😋
