Tell me your best porridge topper ideas

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 17/11/2022 07:59

My new favourite breakfast - porridge - as it's warm and filling. I cheat and use the sachets. Current fave toppers are chopped banana with a sprinkle of sweet cinnamon.

What else can I try?

I always have cinnamon with crunchy brown sugar and a bit of cold milk splashed on top.

DH always has banana

Dd always has cinnamon and runny honey

I am definitely going to give apple purée a try though!

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/11/2022 19:41

Chocolate chips and hazelnuts 😃

I like honey on mine

balalake · 17/11/2022 19:52

Honey is the only thing I will consider.

Sainsburys did Apple strudel mincemeat last year which was the best thing, wish they had brought it back this year

Ooh that sounds yummy!

A knob of salted butter in the middle and sugar sprinkled all over on top. Then dip the spoonfuls of porridge in the melting butter as you get through your portion...This is the best hands down.

whiteonesugar · 17/11/2022 20:46

I like honey and cinnamon in it and toppings;

banana on its own

maple syrup and pecans, sometimes with banana too

square if dark choc mixed in with fruit, strawberries or raspberries

almond extract mixed in and frozen cherries on top

brown sugar and cream

stewed apple

yum

Strokethefurrywall · 17/11/2022 20:50

Banana

Dark choc chips
Pumpkin seeds or walnuts
Almond butter

Stickystitch · 17/11/2022 21:45

Chopped dried apricot, coconut flakes, nuts, maple syrup

Gherkingreen · 17/11/2022 21:49

I make porridge most days, with blueberries, cinammon, a little honey/maple or golden syrup and a sprinkle of pumpkin seeds or flaked almonds. Or banana. Or dried cranberries. Or raisins.
It starts life as a healthy options and ends up not so much 😀

marlowe5 · 17/11/2022 21:54

Warm apricots boiled up in a bit of sugar and water

marlowe5 · 17/11/2022 21:56

Sometimes I add toasted pumpkin seeds instead with some maple syrup

Vinylloving · 17/11/2022 21:57

Peanut butter, chopped banana, sweet cinnamon, honey, blueberries, seeds

Daisymay2 · 17/11/2022 21:57

Raspberries or blackcurrants- when I run out of the berries I froze during the summer, I resort to Waitrose Esentials frozen berries or the Sainsbury's equivalent. Sometimes I add runny honey as well.
Yoghurt
Blueberries from time to time.

Daisymay2 · 17/11/2022 22:01

I agree with the previous poster about making porridge from scratch. I sometimes weigh it into the bowl and give it a couple of minutes in the microwave and then leave it overnight in the fridge. Another 3 minutes in the microwave in the morning, ready to go.

randomrandomium · 17/11/2022 22:10

I usually have a plum cooked in the microwave for a minute with star anise, cinnamon and a bit of brown sugar. Take out the star anise before eating! Lots of good ideas on this thread, think I need to branch out and try something new.

Onedayatatime22 · 17/11/2022 23:12

Chopped dates & banana, cinnamon and a spoonful of date syrup.

saraclara · 17/11/2022 23:18

Fresh blueberries.

Honey and grated ginger

Black Forest gateau porridge: cocoa to make it chocolate porridge then a dollop of Greek yogurt and black cherries (frozen)

Pip n nut crunchy peanut butter and banana. Gotta be pip n nut, sweet and so dollop-y

KezzabellaB · 17/11/2022 23:26

Raspberries, blueberries and some melted biscoff 😋

HannahDefoesTrenchcoat · 17/11/2022 23:37

Chopped pear mixed in before cooking and then microwaved together roped with flakes almonds or almond butter

StarboysMum · 17/11/2022 23:54

I like a savoury porridge. Salt and chia seeds stirred in: toasted mixed seeds on top for a lovely crunch.

RoobarbandCustud · 18/11/2022 00:23

I make from scratch...I add a heaped teaspoon of cocoa powder and top with a sliced banana for a choccy start some days; my absolute fave is stewed Bramleys and cinnamon; or a few sultanas; stewed rhubarb or tinned prunes.
