Tell me your best porridge topper ideas

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 17/11/2022 07:59

My new favourite breakfast - porridge - as it's warm and filling. I cheat and use the sachets. Current fave toppers are chopped banana with a sprinkle of sweet cinnamon.

What else can I try?

I add milk and do mine in microwave for 4 mins .. perfect and so much cheaper than sachets

Top with banana /blueberries /peanut butter /cream whatever I fancy - cheap and filling

The whole bag is 90p in Aldi

MadgeMarple · 17/11/2022 09:45

Blueberries, dessertspoon of Greek yoghurt (proper stuff not the Greek style ones) and a teaspoon of cashew nut butter.

Another vote for mincemeat - I had some excess homemade that didn't fill a whole jar, so stirred it into my porridge to use it up.

Wow, thanks for all the replies!

Just using an old pack of sachets up then will definitely buy oats and do my own. Loads of ideas - thanks.

A swirl of cream and a splodge of soft brown sugar

Normally, as a PP said, salt and cold milk.

However, my breakfast of champions last Christmas was a full mince pie plopped on top and a lake of single cream 😋

I know what I'm having on my next bowl of porridge!
My MIL makes the best mince pies so just need to nudge her to make them!

I blitz a pear in the microwave for a minute, smash it up then chuck it on.

agree re sachets- they’re either pure oats and therefore a very expensive way of having someone measure for you or they are full if added sugar

Can’t believe mine hasn’t been mentioned; 4 squares of dark chocolate and a handful of raspberries. Heaven in a bowl 😍

That sounds yummy! Will have to try

PeloFondo · 17/11/2022 15:35

Butter and syrup
Mincemeat (festive!)
Peanut butter and banana

PeloFondo · 17/11/2022 15:36

Sainsburys did Apple strudel mincemeat last year which was the best thing, wish they had brought it back this year

Theoldwoman · 17/11/2022 15:39

Frozen raspberries and a sprinkle of brown sugar

AnchorWHAT · 17/11/2022 15:48

Golden syrup
Demerara sugar
or my absolute favourite a muller corner cherry yoghurt stirred in is delicious.

Flairmaine · 17/11/2022 16:38

Greek yoghurt, strawberries and honey

greaterscott · 17/11/2022 16:45

Mashed banana and a drizzle of toffee sauce

user1477249785 · 17/11/2022 16:48

Dried sour cherries and roasted almonds. It's sort of Bakewell tart flavour.

spiderlight · 17/11/2022 16:54

I once caught my DH topping his porridge with....wait for it....pesto! 😱He said it was disgusting and never did it again, but the mere fact that it had occurred to him was mind-boggling!

mamaduckbone · 17/11/2022 18:22

-Raisins, brown sugar and cinnamon (known as Christmas porridge in our house)
-Sliced banana, pumpkin seeds and blueberries with a teaspoon of honey
They're my two favourites

Salt and milk! The best!

Yep. Made with half milk, half water, then topped with more milk and salt.

Rosieroe · 17/11/2022 08:38

Best porridge topper I ever had was at the Slieve Donard hotel: Bushmills whiskey, honey and pouring cream. Yum yum!

My Christmas morning breakfast - porridge, blackberries and whisky.

ChocolateCrepe · 17/11/2022 18:28

Banana & biscoff spread
Banana & nutella
Just Blueberries
Stewed apple & cinnamon- referred to as apple pie porridge
Definitely putting some mincemeat in tomorrow! Mince pie porridge!

Shutupyoutart · 17/11/2022 18:30

Stewed apple is lush on porridge op. or my late nan used to always have sugar and milk or cream with it she loved it, lady was a genius I tried it once and now it's my go to for porridge every time while everyone else in my family drowns theirs in syrup lol.

WishingWell5 · 17/11/2022 18:32

Strawberries cut up small and honey

Doliveira · 17/11/2022 18:48

I do overnight oats so I don’t have to cook in the morning. I mix the oats with a scoop of vegan protein powder and a big spoon of cacao powder.. and then in the morning add either a drizzle of tahini and maple syrup or in summer, lots of strawberries, or berries from sainsburys Black Forest frozen fruits.

MissyB1 · 17/11/2022 19:29

I go mad with the seeds, I add
chia
sesame
sunflower
flaxseed
plus dried cranberries.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 17/11/2022 19:35

Strawberries and strawberry jam all the way for me!
