In a cafe, and a woman has just complained (funny)

1000 replies

QuestionableMouse · 15/11/2022 12:15

She'd ordered a bacon sandwich and it's just been delivered to the table. She's now moaning because her bacon sandwich has a tiny crumb of black pudding on it. And she doesn't eat pork.

I feel for the poor staff having to explain which animal bacon comes from 😬

(And no, there's no vegan bacon on the menu so not a mix up!)

@BosaNova

Sorry, cross posted! This thread is moving soooo fast!

Great minds and all that😂

WiddlinDiddlin · 15/11/2022 17:47

Ah Mumsnet..

I love that in 25 pages of replies, no one yet has suggested that Mrs No Pork has simply misspoken and said 'I don't eat pork' when she meant to say 'I don't like black pudding', in a moment of lunacy, and then felt bloody stupid and sent long suffering Husband to complain as she was just feeling that way out, and then felt even sillier on discovering it was just burnt bun, and instead of apologising, continued to be a bit of a tit.

Instead we have high drama and wild fantasy where she is a dementia suffering follower of a religion that disallows blood but not pork, probably not native and doesn't (despite a local accent) speak English as her first language.

Obviously the latter is the most likely reality....

Sorry - that was in response to "Piglighting bastard!"

Why thank you @Emotionalsupportviper
Do have a porky scratching - there's no ham in it. Honest. 😁

Flapjackquack · 15/11/2022 17:49

Don’t be so reasonable @WiddlinDiddlin 😁

CarefreeMe · 15/11/2022 17:49

Well, this thread is annoying me - everyone jumping on to sneer at some poor woman - if it isn't religious/cultural, she might have learning difficulties - or, shock horror - simply not be as clever as the average Mumsnetter.

I do agree that she probably did have some sort of learning difficulties/special needs and most of the ‘karens’ that people film and post all over the internet also have learning or MH difficulties too.

I think as long as you are respectful to them in person then it’s ok to make a thread like this, as the person wasn’t affected and if they do read it later then can just come off it or even say her piece.

If they are rude in person then it’s ok to be rude back.

Most people who don’t eat pig would know what contained pig and what didn’t.
My friend has recently gone on holiday and researched the country and what foods to avoid as they may contain pig of some sort.

AnApparitionQuipped · 15/11/2022 12:55

I'm annoyed on behalf of the woman you're all sneering at, and I want to stick up for her.

This is how bullying thrives - people are upset when they see it, but they do nothing - they step away, or they join in 'for a laugh' without thinking about what they're really doing.

I just think people should stop and think before sneering at a stranger in this way.

It would be completely different if you were laughing at your own silly mistake; or if the woman was being outrageously rude.

But she's made a perfectly legitimate complaint about her food being not what she ordered. For whatever reason, she doesn't know that bacon routinely comes from pork. That's nothing to sneer at.

For crying out loud!

She hasn't been named, or even described. none of us (other than OP) even know what county she's from let alone which town or city.

She may possibly be on MN, bit if she is and is reading this red-faced all I can say is - "Every day's a schooldays, pet, and we've all shown ourselves up in public at one time or another. This time it was your turn, Enjoy your next bacon sandwich."

pocketvenuss · 15/11/2022 17:51

@Pasc611 dear God do you really not see why the face comment was funny? It literally made no sense

AnApparitionQuipped · 15/11/2022 17:51

StickySnotBalls · 15/11/2022 17:42

@AnApparitionQuipped , the OP said the woman's husband looked like he was laughing. Stop making it into something it's not. We've all made tits of ourselves at some point
I'm sorry that your dad is ill but it's not about you

It's about the sort of person I want to be. If someone is being ridiculed for being different from or weaker than me, do I want to be the sort of person who:

  • Joins in
  • Stands by
  • Speaks up
Which do you want to be?

AnApparitionQuipped · 15/11/2022 17:28

A more accurate term than 'making stretches in mental gymnastics' would be 'reading the thread'.

I would suggest you read the OP's posts at least, as you don't appear to be reading the same thread as the majority of posters. But thanks for the added laughs this afternoon Smile

CheeseIsMyPatronus · 15/11/2022 17:52

@WowserBear , the OP was sitting in a greasy spoon caff waiting for her MOT. In a place selling bacon butties and could plausibly include black pudding (but it was burnt breat)
If you think that's unlikely to be the UK, go ahead, you run with that.

Those of us who aren't Globetrotting Nomads (or whatever that hilarious claim was) can stick to Occam's razor and think the woman was a numpty.

This has been both entertaining and deranged and I've enjoyed it very much. Thanks, OP!

MollieMarie · 15/11/2022 17:54

All this arguing over what's probably a made up thread anyway 😂

Are you really chatting about rudeness whilst referring to people as 'Karen' Confused

She eats raisins but not grapes.

LOL1

tigger1001 · 15/11/2022 18:02

"is a joke! Not a slur!

When someone has no sense of humour we call them dry. When someone is a killjoy we call them a nuance.
So now we can't joke or say anything because the woke MNs are offended.

Seriously. Oh my, how do you live a day without breaking down in tears?"

Dry sense of humour doesn't mean no sense of humour though. Am assuming you mean nuisance for killjoy? But that doesn't mean killjoy either.

"Karen" though used to describe someone who is moaning though is a slur - it's used to insult them. Unless of course the person you are talking about is actually called Karen. It's not a joke and many do find it offensive, as it's often used to shut down conversation "don't be such a Karen" for example.

Nothing to do with being "woke".

CarefreeMe · 15/11/2022 18:02

That’s what people call them when they upload the video, which is why I put it in apostrophe’s.

Did you miss that this poster put that word in inverted commas? The poster was quoting others.

I don't agree with all their points, but they've done nothing wrong in that respect.

WorldWideNomad · 15/11/2022 18:05

It's hard to know which is the most batshit comment on this thread, but it has brightened up my afternoon.

Black Pudding was made from sheep (sheep stomach with blood and rice I thought

You are nearly right. What you have described is a little bit like haggis.

Haggis is a sheep stomach filled with offal, oatmeal, onions, suet, seasoning and spices

You're really selling this to me <boak> - do you moonlight for the Haggis Marketing Board, Danvers?

"But it all comes from a pig, my love." I'll be laughing over that all day, I can imagine Julie Walters playing the waitress. Great 'overheard', OP.

That was one of my first mental images where this marathon thread started, the second thought was How would the wonderful Victoria Wood have worked it into Dinner Ladies?

No, she's not, re-read her post and note the quote marks.

I'm unconvinced, mind you.

JudgeJ · 15/11/2022 18:07

MichaelAndEagle · 15/11/2022 16:41

I'm surprised no one took offence at the lady saying 'my love'.
Sure there was a thread about that or something similar the other day.

Don't give the professional moaners any more ideas!

Delicious!

Nothing quite as tasty as pig-free pork, I always think.
