I’ve just found out what DH did on his day off.

He deep cleaned the house. Like all the sketchy bits, behind the furniture, the skirting boards, the dodgy bits of dust and grime in the creases in the window frames, degreased the extractor filters, all that nonsense throughout the whole house.

I only discovered it because I went to wipe a handprint off a door and, jif in hand, went to do all the doors. They were clean!

He didn’t mention it. Which is out of character as he can be a bit of a glory hunter wrt housework stuff. But he just said he was off work, kids were all out, I was at work and he needed something to do. He’s even descaled the kettle ffs.

This is untenable. How can I ever do pass agg cleaning around him now when he’s done six months worth of my jobs for me. Fucker.

This is bang on - thanks and appreciation cost nothing!

DP and I always thank and compliment each other for doing jobs - I think it creates a nice atmosphere. We've lasted thirty three years together so it seems to have worked.

Glad to hear this. DH and I always make a point to thank the other, I love that we take the time to do that.

IcakethereforeIam · 04/11/2022 16:00

OP your husband inspired me to degunk the bathroom sink. The bastard!

ratsrats · 04/11/2022 16:00

why is the bar so low for men 🙄

MrsMiddleMother · 04/11/2022 16:28

Definitely sending this thread to DH asap

LeMoo · 04/11/2022 16:34

@Ohhmydays all this time I've been labouring under the belief I'm household 😆

LeMoo · 04/11/2022 16:35

*houseproud, ffs

Maybe like twice a year when I realise it stinks.

I’m really not that great a cleaner. The jobs he’s done are ones I think of every six months or so. I mean, who dusts skirting boards in real life ffs? And I’m not sure I’ve ever cleaned the window frames other than a cursory wipe with a j cloth.

Maybe he’s prepping the house to sell and leave me? 😱

No need to bleach. Just wash it/clean it, for goodness sake!

MysteryBelle · 04/11/2022 17:05

Love this 😀 isn’t it nice when our DHs surprise us?

ancientgran · 04/11/2022 17:09

My husband used to work a pattern where one week he did six days Monday to Saturday and the other week he did 4 days Monday to Thursday. The week he did 4 days he cleaned the house on Friday and I came home to a lovely weekend with no jobs to do.

Enjoy it OP.

Happy days.

@TimeAtTheBar I think you're not seeing the opportunity to make millions here.
Set up a company called Husband Housekeepers & get your DH to do all the training of the potential new Husband Housekeepers.

Whilst you sit back & work out what you're going to do with all that money you'll make.

In the meantime does your DH have a brother/father/cousin/best friend just like him that I can have 😂

Lisagreen12 · 04/11/2022 17:19

Is this still available?

daisychain01 · 04/11/2022 17:21

Watch out for the Mumsnet lacy black knickers that mysteriously appear in the laundry basket.

only kidding @TimeAtTheBar youve definitely got a keeper there!

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 04/11/2022 17:30

He's clearly having an affair with Kim and Aggie AND trying to discredit Mumsnet. Shocking.

OrangeCinnamonLatte · 04/11/2022 17:33

Are you sure he hasn't murdered someone?

ncncncnc123 · 04/11/2022 18:34

Aw how heartening to see a positive DH post!

BabyClubYEEAAH · 04/11/2022 18:39

Sometimes I start an argument with my husband because when he’s cross with me he deep cleans the house 🫢

Darling/dear husband and darling/dear children. I’m not really sure why but it’s a mumsnet thing 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks so much. But is it darling or is it dear?

Could it be damned? I always thought DH meant Deborah Harry. Why did Mumsnet want to change it?

either or. Damned also works. See also, dickhead, doofus or dim. Depends on the mood du jour.

honeyrider · 04/11/2022 19:09

Very suspicious, maybe he got a cleaner in on the quiet 😉

Notanotherwindow · 04/11/2022 19:25

Send him round here next time he's bored, would you please.

"Do you know that Newspeak is the only language in the world whose vocabulary gets smaller every year?'"

The USSR did the same. Totalitarian cults in the USA also use words in this way. I wonder what the IQ (get it!?) of Mumsnet posters are. Hehe!

Parmesam · 04/11/2022 19:42

My Dad was like this. Mum would take us to visit grandparents or whoever and on our return find some furniture in the garden! He'd pull out everything and do a proper clean even scrubbing the skirting boards!

Now he's a bit infirm in his late 70s but will still attack things he thinks he can still do (and much he can't). My mum is grateful but has to tell him to sit his arse down sometimes!

Witchandchips9 · 04/11/2022 20:03

You jif your doors? Is that a thing? (Totally missing the point…)

Only if they’re grubby! Hand prints, labrador paws, that kind of thing. They are white (as are most of the walls) which is stupid when I think about it.
