I’ve just found out what DH did on his day off.

He deep cleaned the house. Like all the sketchy bits, behind the furniture, the skirting boards, the dodgy bits of dust and grime in the creases in the window frames, degreased the extractor filters, all that nonsense throughout the whole house.

I only discovered it because I went to wipe a handprint off a door and, jif in hand, went to do all the doors. They were clean!

He didn’t mention it. Which is out of character as he can be a bit of a glory hunter wrt housework stuff. But he just said he was off work, kids were all out, I was at work and he needed something to do. He’s even descaled the kettle ffs.

This is untenable. How can I ever do pass agg cleaning around him now when he’s done six months worth of my jobs for me. Fucker.

Did he hoover fluff out of your bathroom extractor?

No?

Not good enough.

Oh my actual fucking god; of all the things to pick. Yes. Yes he did.

The fucker.

Ohhmydays · 04/11/2022 14:33

@LeMoo i have taught him better than his mumma lol I used to do it once a week before the younger 2 came along(I used to do all the cleaning) between dp and my older son cooking in the kitchen the mess gets everywhere. Don’t know how they manage but they seam to get butter, sauces, crumbs everything down the sides of the cupboards/cooker lol

caringcarer · 04/11/2022 14:35

I am soooo jealous of you OP.

ArabellaScott · 04/11/2022 14:36

OP has he got any tips for how to get stuff out from the side of/underneath fridges/cookers, etc? Asking for a friend.

ShakeYourFeathers · 04/11/2022 14:38

Oh god how annoying.

Do you have a spade & patio???

Will provide alibi of required.

Lmgify · 04/11/2022 14:47

Time for a new patio!!

I think he might just build one when he’s next off 😅

Bluekerfuffle · 04/11/2022 14:53

You lucky thing. Swop you for mine who claims not to notice obvious things like half a crumpet in the middle of the carpet, let alone clean the hidden bits.

ifonly4 · 04/11/2022 14:54

You'll have to cook him a nice tea now!

Not as impressive to yours, but I work part-time so have plenty of time to do ironing/grass cutting/gardening, but I often come home on a Sunday (my one full day at work) to find DH has done them. So grateful to have a decent DH, who doesn't take me for granted.

I frequently bleach my kitchen bin.
However I have a stupid one with crevices where dirt seems to hide until it looks filthy and I wonder why I didn’t see it before!

What absolute psychopath designs something that is bound to get dirty with a million different grooves, crevices, holes, etc?

My bin is the same and don't get me started on the fucking washing machine drawer 😡

MissConductUS · 04/11/2022 15:03

Grab him by the shirt and shout, "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY REAL HUSBAND?"

😁

Greenginghamdress · 04/11/2022 15:11

Was not expecting this when I clicked on this thread! 😂

stayathomer · 04/11/2022 15:20

Why do you refer to them as your jobs?

I think you need to calm down OP. He might have done a big clean but when was the last time he did any cleaning? We’re so quick to give men a big pat on the back for doing things that they should be doing anyway. I have male friends who are approached in public and congratulated just for looking after their own children.
Dh regularly tells me I’m amazing and he needs to cop on, he doesn’t know how I do it etc but he does do excellent cleans coming up to as much as me and I say thank god fair dues etc. When the other person does it you acknowledge it because it means you didn’t have to- not a man/woman thing but a partner thing!

Tangled123 · 04/11/2022 15:20

My husband usually works one or two night shifts a week. Usually when that happens, he sleeps until lunch time, maybe heads out to get breakfast/lunch then comes home and plays Xbox until it’s time for him to go pick up the toddler from nursery. Sadly today is no exception. I came home to not one bit of housework done because apparently that’s my job even though I never get time alone in the house to do it.

Nice to know men are capable of cleaning though.

3littleloves · 04/11/2022 15:30

My advice... LTB

I mean absolutely do not LTB and please point me in the direction of finding a husband that does such things 🤣

SBAM · 04/11/2022 15:31

Thanks for the reminder to descale the kettle!

Harainee · 04/11/2022 15:33

My DH does cleaning jobs that I have no idea even exist. If I catch him doing them, I have to ask what he's up to. One example is vacuuming the back of the freezer.

The essentials things, obv.

KAYMACK · 04/11/2022 15:35

What does DH mean?

I have seen it before, but I always think of it as having something to do with DH Lawrence...

I also saw DC and all I could think of was DC Thomson.

Is this like the way my primary school kids sometimes use text speak in their essays?

Plot twist:

It's the OW leaving you hints that there's an OW so you'll kick him out. And also her showing him what Wife Material he'd be getting.

You might want to say nothing until you spot a pattern. Like after Christmas maybe. Just to be sure...

Darling/dear husband and darling/dear children. I’m not really sure why but it’s a mumsnet thing 🤷🏼‍♀️

They are all here.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 04/11/2022 15:43

This is the sort of thing my DH does and I love him so much for it, I'm awful at seeing what needs to be cleaned. I'm going to hospital on Sunday for a procedure and will spend the next two days recuperating, DH is taking Monday and Tuesday off work and I can already (metaphorically speaking) hear his knuckles cracking in preparation for the cleaning he'll indulge in.

This is bang on - thanks and appreciation cost nothing!

DP and I always thank and compliment each other for doing jobs - I think it creates a nice atmosphere. We've lasted thirty three years together so it seems to have worked.
