What the hell is this?

I constantly have scratch marks on my upper back/ neck. They’re deep enough that they last a few days at a time and you can see and feel them.

But, the thing is, I definitely don’t scratch my neck during waking hours or remember ever being itchy there. Why would I be scratching to the point of breaking the skin ONLY in my sleep and also not remembering it? It’s a mystery….any suggestions?

Scratchy hairbrush??

Do you have a cat you sleep with? I sometimes wake up with scratches. (Mainly because I have rolled on her I think).

Demon lover?

OP, my DH is currently into modelling. He's constantly painting then rubbing down, then painting then rubbing down. There's paint dust everywhere, and it can be quite scratchy if his sandpaper isn't the finest.

Could that be it?

Justcallmebebes · 03/11/2022 19:39

Sloths have very long sharp nails and are very quiet. Could a sloth be sneaking into your bed?

BobbyBobbyBobby · 03/11/2022 19:40

Are you forgetting to remove your squirrel before you go to bed?

Cute bison

I want him!

OrangePomander · 03/11/2022 19:45

DH has just suggested a Gruffalo. But unless you live in a deep dark wood I suspect this is highly unlikely Hmm

I don't think a bison would leave scratch marks. They have hooves, don't they? Surely that would leave a bruise rather than a scratch?

Bison are horny though?

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 03/11/2022 19:46

Good point.

OP, do you have a horny bison in your bed?

Saucery · 03/11/2022 19:46

A horny bison would definitely wake her up. They aren’t subtle.

Scratchnoitch · 03/11/2022 19:59

@Gazelda i don’t know why you’re accusing me of having your husband sandpapering clay in my bed. I have done nothing, nothing, to suggest that. This place is full of vipers

Well it's just that if you're asking for help identifying the origin of the scratches, a photo might be helpful OP Imagine a normal looking neck and upper shoulders. Now imagine there’s a few scratches across them.

But which direction are the scratches? Diagram please.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 03/11/2022 20:02

Yes. A diagram is needed. Preferably with lots of different colours. And the location of the bison clearly identified please.

I like diagrams with colours.

And bisons.

is this a reverse?

I don’t think so, I’ve only ever seen ones with fins. No claws, though happy to stand corrected.
Sure someone will be along shortly with more experience.

Lightningfast · 03/11/2022 20:15

When do the marks appear?

Scratchnoitch · 03/11/2022 20:18

They’re just there when I notice them which is every few weeks. But they might be there all the time I’m not sure.
