SPOILERS

I'm Just watching this.

On my own at home after a bad week. And I know that in the end the surgery doesn't work and he dies.

And watching him and Elizabeth I'm just weeping.

Another episode that has really stayed with me is when Carter and his wife's baby dies during her pregnancy. It was so sad. And years later, after my own child was stillborn, I was rewatching it all and I knew this episode was coming up and I had a mental tussle about whether to watch it or not. I did, it wasn't as bad as I'd feared and it was strange experiencing the storyline from my new perspective.

@AthenaMinerva I'm so sorry about your baby. That must have been tough viewing after what you'd been through. Flowers

Clooney still sees Mark Greene years later! Yes great show

poshme · 06/11/2022 23:57

Oh.
I'd forgotten about the Green baby overdose.

And mark is just finding out the tumour is back.

It's so sad.

But I think my tears are cathartic.

@poshme I've just watched some episodes in series 4. Elderly ladies being attacked and raped in their own home and 'whore' written on them Sad

Harrowing. The storylines were done so well.

On the other hand I found Grey's Anatomy to be really weird to watch - I think because that's set in a 'private' hospital? So it's all elective. It all felt very clean and sanitised.

Ha ha, okay I will give it a go. I do need a new series to obsess over. If it's got a generally good script, believable characters and a flawed hero or two, I will hopefully be hooked.

As long as it's not too schmaltzy...

Okay, so I'm already on episode 10 of season 1 and it has me hooked!

Not so keen on the bits I have to suspend my disbelief for*, like the pizza delivery guy crashing into the entrance or them plucking a turkey in an exam room, but on the whole enjoying it, particularly Dr Greene 😁

Re: Greys Anatomy - I've watched a few episodes, but just find it way too cheesy and soap-operary. ER seems more believable.

*Not sure why I don't have this issue with whole shows that require this, ie ones about vampires, but hey ho.

Where is everyone watching ER? I tried All 4 but it says it is unavailable 🤷🏼‍♀️

That's odd.. I am watching on All 4...

QueenOfHiraeth · 07/11/2022 17:08

I was just going to ask the same thing. I can't find it on the TV via Sky or All 4 either
Oddly I can see it on All4 on my laptop

magicstar1 · 07/11/2022 17:11

I can't get it through Sky on All4, but I chromecast it to the tv from my iPad.

I started it all again recently and I'm up to Season 4. It's soooo good!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 07/11/2022 21:12

Oh god I’m up to Scott Anspaugh, in bits. I don’t think there’s any other drama that’s made me cry so much!

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/11/2022 21:50

In need to rewatch ER, it was superb.

ElizabethBest · 07/11/2022 21:56

The convenience store episode, where Carol gets so involved and tries so hard to save Ewan McGregor always gets me.

poshme · 07/11/2022 23:22

@ElizabethBest I loved that episode.

I love the one where Dr Kovac is working in (I think Africa?) when they are attacked. He is about to be shot and starts to pray, they assume he is a priest and he is spared. Amazing TV. Loved it!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 09/11/2022 17:29

I'm watching again and just had a conversation with my husband about it. I've been watching since I was about 13 or so? And have rewatched several times. All the characters just seem so real to me. They're so well written. I genuinely couldn't tell you another series where I've been so invested in the characters and their lives. When they behave in a way I wouldn't, it always seems real.

I mean obviously take that with a pinch of salt as I'm English so have no real idea of what it is to work in a hospital let alone an American one, but I literally just said to DH "I love this storyline for Benton, such a welcome character development. Made him a much nicer person" Grin (he's just found out about Reese's deafness).
