SPOILERS

I'm Just watching this.

On my own at home after a bad week. And I know that in the end the surgery doesn't work and he dies.

And watching him and Elizabeth I'm just weeping.

ER was so, so good. I haven't watched it since it originally aired but I can remember all the episodes PPs have mentioned here. Mark' s saying goodbye episode when they went to Hawaii and played Somewhere Over the Rainbow. There really haven't been many other programs as good.

poshme · 01/11/2022 20:49

@FlibbertyGiblets yes thank you!

Also, the scene that always got me was when they were trying to page Dennis Gant after he had had an disagreement with Carter and the pager goes off on the patient and they realise it's him.

Oh man. As soon as they said man hit by train I knew that it was Dennis Gant. I've never cried so much. I think I was about 15 at the time and that episode haunts me still.

poshme · 01/11/2022 20:53

Oh and the episode where one of the chief surgeons son dies and Jeanie sings Green Day's Good Riddance also in floods, but absolutely when Carter and Lucy are trapped apart and looking at each other in that episode when she's been stabbed.

Scott Anspaugh. Don’t ask me how I still remember that

Heyahun · 01/11/2022 20:56

I’m watching it again too 🙈 marks final episodes coming up soon I started watching it on maternity leave ! I love it

swedex · 01/11/2022 20:57

I've just watched series 12 episode 22 when sams ex kidnaps her and Alex and kovak and Abby nearly loose the baby honestly my heart was in my throat and I was in bits

Mama1980 · 01/11/2022 20:59

The Gant episode always sticks in my mind, the absolute horror on carter and Benton's face as they realise...
And when Benton can't save his nephew, and his sister just screams Sad

I remember proper ugly crying at this in my bedroom when I was about 17, totally heartbreaking!!

ordinarilyordinary · 01/11/2022 21:01

There was an episode in one of the earlier series when a lady dies of pre-eclampsia. It was so sad and tragic

JubileeTrifle · 01/11/2022 21:02

What’s really frustrating is when Sam goes to get Carters kidney and Doug Ross asks about Susan and Carrie but doesn’t ask about Carter!

toomuchlaundry · 01/11/2022 21:03

I still haven’t watched the last ever episode!

GiantCheeseMonster · 01/11/2022 21:07

Little moments.

Romano signing “look after your Daddy” to Reece.

Carol blowing marijuana for the dying old man because he hasn’t got the strength to inhale it himself.

Abby’s care for the couple whose baby is born at 22 weeks.

and…”you set the tone.”

Bradley Whitford, of West Wing fame played the husband.

Omg. Yes. '...you set the tone.'
Perfection.

Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman from The West Wing) is in that one.

Yes those screams. I've heard someone scream like that in real life - that was grief too.

Great thread! I think ER is my favourite TV show ever. I've seen the whole thing several times and always cry through the Mark Green dying episodes. I wished they'd called it a day a few series earlier though. The last couple weren't wriiten as well as ealier ones.

FoodieToo · 01/11/2022 21:52

Mark's death is probably the stand out for me , it was SO well done . Was upset for weeks after it .
Somewhere Over the Rainbow still makes me cry . Beautiful !

Intelligenthair · 01/11/2022 21:54

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 01/11/2022 01:00

Bless you giving spoilers on a tv show for an episode nearly 20 years ago!

I love a bit of er for cathartic crying. Although my episodes of choice are the ones where carter and Lucy get stabbed.

I thought I’d stumbled into a zombie thread from the 90s/00s then!
