Anyone tried the shreddies fart absorbing pants?

I’m thinking of buying some of these for my boyfriend for Christmas (more of a present to myself than him). I hate when he farts in bed, and it seems to be only smelling worse as he’s getting older.

Only thing is they are really expensive, so I don’t want to waste my money if they don’t work, if anyone knows any cheaper alternatives I’m all ears?

So anyone tried them? Do they work? And how long do they last? Do they only work for so many washes or will they last a long time?

No matter how effective the fart pants are in holding in smell, what about the sound? Do they trap sound in too, does anyone know? As for the fart banana .....speechless.

AlmostOver22 · 28/10/2022 17:30

I love how some people are almost claiming that farting is abnormal and farters should be consigned to living a solitary life 😅 Mumsnet can be hilariously prudish. This thread is absolutely the best thing I’ve read all week

Yes we have some!!! They work & washing with soda crystals is no bother - they are cheap and effective. Genuinely think this is a great product and don't see why anyone wouldn't want a fart filter! We got them for my son. If anyone needs them for a child, they will custom make some by fitting the carbon filter into their own underwear. I was so grateful because he had an issue at the time (now resolved) & I was worried about him getting teased at school. 100% would get them for my husbands night farts too!!

How exactly do you wash/dry them?

SmokedHaddockChowder · 28/10/2022 17:38

This bit got me: "Once seated on the aircraft, simply pop it into your underwear and enjoy the rest of your journey."

Once seated. ONCE SEATED!! The mind boggles.

No they don't stop the sound but you can't hear a fart over the noise on a flight. Some people can ease out a fart silently and I'm guessing a lot of people aren't bothered about the noise at home but just want to save their family members from the smell.

arbitraryarsehole · 28/10/2022 17:50

@Endlesssummer392 40 degree machine wash with a scoop of soda crystals only (no detergent or softener) then can tumble dry on a low heat or line dry

Like most adults without health conditions, I use the bathroom as needed & don't have concerns about the impact of my digestive system on others.

You think most people go to the bathroom to FART?

Christ if I sent my BF to the bathroom every time he needed to fart he would be up and down all night😂

How wonderfully naive some posters are. The idea that everyone can control their wind or can improve their propensity to pass wind by eating a good diet. Enjoy your naivety whilst you can! Those with incurable and in some cases untreatable digestive issues know better.

That said, the banana in the pants is so risible! Are we sure that isn't part of an April Fool that got left online?

Chloefairydust · 28/10/2022 18:13

I’m actually seriously considering the banana instead of the pants now that I think about it… I wonder with it being more of a cushion and maybe thicker material would it last longer? the pants sound like they don’t work for long…

I wonder if I could persuade my BF to wear the banana to bed? 🤔…

Also I bet the banana would make a fart quieter, like muffle the fart, for all those enquiring about the stopping the sound of a fart… personally it’s more the smell that bothers me than the sound.

@Endlesssummer392 Have you tried the banana? If so is it any better than the pants?

I know, I don’t think diet really makes that much of a difference with my partner. In fact the more he eats fruit and vegetables which are considered a healthy diet the gassier he seems to be…

My mum had some and said they were pretty good - she was self-conscious because she had no sense of smell.

How does she know they were any good then?

InsertPunHere · 28/10/2022 18:25

@LeMoo because she lived with my dad.

LeMoo · 28/10/2022 18:25

Fair enough :)

Are these Shreddies pants knitted by Nannas?

On a more serious note if anyone is reading this who has uncontrollable gas here are my tips:

Cut FODMAPs from your diet then reintroduce them to see what ones are responsible. Use FODMAP A- Z app is excellent.

Cut all sulphites from diet - sodium metabisulphite, sulphur dioxide, these are also classified as E220 - E228. Found in orange squash etc, sausages, sausage rolls, and wine / champagne. Check labels.

Cut sugar - the bacteria which create sulphur in your gut feed on sugar.

if that's not enough try a low carb diet.

I hope this helps x

Do the bananas come from Costa Reeker?

Thanks for the advice, I’m not sure how willing BF will be to change his diet tho 🙂

Also your username is fitting for the topic of the thread 😁

"Most normal adults can control their bowels & related digestive issues.
Either he does so, or gets medical advice."

And what will the medical advice be seeing as there is no cure?
Plenty of people suffer from flatulence. Most GPs will put it down to IBS or similar, for which there is no real cure.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/10/2022 20:30

"I know it’s a problem some people just can’t help, I suspect my partner also falls into this category.
Unless he has a medical diagnosis, then no."

What do you mean by 'no'? Lots of people can't control farts. They haven't all received an official diagnosis.

If someone only has uncontrollable gas half the month, do they only cut those things out half the time?
It seems really extreme and difficult to keep healthy and have a normal life while cutting out so many things. You'd have to cut out all wine for example as the labels for wine don't list all the ingredients and you don't see it at all if you drink while out.

fartmastergeneral · 28/10/2022 20:45

@Gwenhwyfar all wines contain sulphites unless they are sulphite free. Some organic wines are low sulphites but sulphites can occur in the winemaking process.

Basically if affected you'd need to switch to beer or spirits.

Hope this advice is helpful to anyone who, like me, has had an ongoing battle with their gut.

I always find BF extra gassy after he’s been drinking beer
