What time does your DC’s school finish?

Both primary and secondary school finished at 3.45pm for me, in the late 90s/mid 00s.

I live in a different place to where I grew up and I see both primary and secondary children walking or being collected from about 2.50pm, which seems really early. Yesterday I was wfh but had an appointment to attend at 3.30pm, a short bus ride away - I left 30 mins beforehand but was almost late, as it took me that long to travel less than 2 miles because of the traffic and the amount of schoolchildren at each bus stop.

My own DC will be at school in the next few years and I’m vaguely sketching out how I’ll manage after-school care.

Just curious as to what the “general” school hours are, as I had assumed that 9am-3.45pm was standard.

Should probably add that in my local area there are 4 primaries and 4 secondaries and they all seem to leave at this time.

5.30 private school. They start earlier too.

Primary 8.55 - 3pm

Secondary 8.55 - 3.45pm Monday to Thursday and 8.55 - 12.30 on Friday

Independent school, 8:15 - 4pm. Option to stay for clubs until 6pm.

The state schools here seem to be 8:50 - 3:15

Mine finish at 15.10 primary but one the the high schools finish at 14.30

Where I am my primary DC do 8.45 to 3.25, and on Friday 8.45 to 12.50. Secondary is 8.50 to 3.35.

However before we had half day fridays it was 9.00 to 3.15. I know I finished at 3.45 in primary, but we had an afternoon playtime that my children have never had.

We are 8.40-3.10. They do run a lot of before and after school sports clubs too which lengthens it to 7.40-4.15. State primary.

Secondary school for ds starts at 8.30 and finishes at 3pm

Juniors is 8.45-3, and infants is 9-3.15, but both schools open for drop off 15 mins earlier

Interesting to see the earlier-than-9am starts too. The buses here are still full of children until about 8.50am, and the closest primary to me is at the end of the next street and I can hear a bell go at 9am.

Yes, both my schools had an afternoon break/interval/playtime at about 2.30, for 10-15 mins. Can’t remember primary school but there was a double period in secondary following that.

8.30-3 My school

8.50-3 Husbands school.

We have a lunch hour he has 30 minutes

Primary 8.45 -15. 15
Secondary 8.30- 15.00 (years 7-9) and 8.30-16.00 (years 10 and 11). This is the same school.
6th form college 8.55-16.00 , but depends on each pupils timetable. DS is sometimes home by 14.00.

I finished at 3.30 at primary and 3.05 at secondary 30 years ago, there was no standard time then either.

My kids finished at 3.15/3.10/2.50 plus only on holidays as dd2 boarded eventually

@Brieeeeeeeee my secondary finished earlier than primary because we didn't have that afternoon break. I'm quite surprised at schools that finish at 2.30pm though. How do they get all the hours in? Are the kids starting really early?

Primary can drop off from 8:30 school day starts at 9am until 3pm.
Secondary is 8:50am until 3:10pm.

Secondary school I taught in - 8.30 - 3.10

Secondary school my DC attended - 8.40 - 3.20

Primary school - 8.55 - 3.25

Very few schools IME finish as late as 3.45 op. Certainly for secondary the day starts and finishes earlier than you recall, for the most part.

8.45 - 3.15 here (primary), although actual registration is at 8.55. They operate a soft start from 8.45 which has worked really well for us. After school clubs can take the finish time to 4.15.

9 to 3.20 primary
9 to 3.30 secondary.

Primary school infants 8.50 - 3pm, juniors 8.50 -30.10

another local secondary is 8.30 -3 Monday to Thursday and 8.30 - 2.40 Friday.

DDs secondary is 8.40-3.15, the secondary school I work in is 8.55-3.45.

Our infant school used to be 9-2.45 ten years ago. Then they changed to a 3pm finish. Now apparently schools have been told to extend their hours. So the infant and junior schools here all finish at 3.15/3.30. Secondaries locally also finish at 3.15/3.30. I've never known a state school finish later than 3.30 round here, although there are obviously after school childcare clubs at the primaries.

Private schools have longer days generally speaking and/or have included "prep" or after-school club.

When I worked in primary school hours were 9-3.30 I work in a secondary now and we do 8.10- 2.55 and 8.10-2.15 Tuesdays. Mine are at a different secondary which is 8.40-3
