Ford Fiesta to be axed

Has anyone heard that Ford are set to axe the beloved Ford Fiesta? I feel quite emotional having owned a few in the past. My first car was a mark 3 model.

My first 2 cars were Fiestas and both my ds's first cars have been too. What a sad day !

It is. I think they are a right of passage for so many drivers.

That's a bit sad.

My 1st car was a Ford fiesta, it was 20 years old and I only paid £200.

It had rusted so much, the wing mirrors kept falling off and I swear a hole was about to appear in the footwell - aka Flintstone style 😁
But I loved it.

Birdy1066 · 25/10/2022 22:04

My next door neighbour has a Ford Fiesta. I’ve often felt the urge to take the axe to it. Especially when they park it over my driveway.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 25/10/2022 22:06

My current car is a fiesta and I adore her, that's very sad. Will they make something new to fill the gap I wonder? The Fiesta is such a perfect little car yet so big enough to use with kids and the boot is surprisingly big I got 7 tents in it for Cub camp!

Tomanycarrots · 25/10/2022 22:09

I also felt unexpectedly sad about the news tbh

XanaduKira · 25/10/2022 22:10

That's such a shame. Have they said why?

ditalini · 25/10/2022 22:11

My first car was an F reg Fiesta.

It specialised in stalling if you drove through a moderately sized puddle. I was forever spraying the spark plugs with WD40 to get it going again.

Happy days 😁

Cuck00soup · 25/10/2022 22:12

I remember the "Ford's new baby adverts"

Are the replacing it or getting rid completely I wonder?

That's such a shame. Have they said why?

Apparently the small car market has decreased in popularity with more consumers going for small SUVs? It also doesn't fit with their plans to go all electric?

XanaduKira · 25/10/2022 22:13

Thanks @bellamountain - seems so stings though as surely it's a perfect small car to go all electric with!

CoodleMoodle · 25/10/2022 22:13

That's a shame. The Fiesta was my second car (51 plate) and still my favourite! It let me down a couple of times but always came back, until it finally failed its MOT and would've cost thousands to fix. I nearly cried when we scrapped it, it was like an old friend.

We brought DD home in it, and it was my lifeline when she was a newborn (lived rurally at the time). never got the pleasure! Someone near us has the same car and it always makes me smile to see it on their drive. The DC always point it out to me now!

CoodleMoodle · 25/10/2022 22:16

*DS never got the pleasure

Nitgel · 25/10/2022 22:19

I love my fiesta its so fast and economical. ;( am sad as Iike to update them. Hope they have a good similar car to match it.

Nitgel · 25/10/2022 22:20

I bloody hate big suvs

Michaelmonstera · 25/10/2022 22:20

Sad news. I know nothing about cars and I am only interested in having a reliable mode of transport to get from A to B. To date, I have had a system of replacing my old car (roughly at 10 years old) with a 6 month old fiesta. This has worked well for some time so feel slightly peeved that I will now have to give some extra thought to the process.

Mylittlesandwich · 25/10/2022 22:25

They do have the ka+ which while smaller may do the job for most?

sandgrown · 25/10/2022 22:25

Fiestas are great. Reliable and cheap parts. When I had to leave my home I moved most of my stuff in a Ford Fiesta . It’s a sad day .

Nitgel · 25/10/2022 22:31

I wonder if the Puma is comparable.

ShakeYourFeathers · 25/10/2022 22:37

Oh! I learnt to drive in a couple of Ford fiesta it was a great car. I would have got one but the later editions were just a bit too big.

It doesn't surprise me however, because it's to make room for a similar EV version. Or that's what other company's are planning on doing

Whatwouldscullydo · 25/10/2022 22:37

Oh no.

I currently have a fiesta. Its not the fastest or the fanciest but its reliable and for its size the boot is pretty big. Over all a nice car..perfect for those just starting out driving.

Mercy1968 · 25/10/2022 22:46

Aw no. I passed my test many years ago in a Ford fiesta and had a few of them through early adulthood/parenthood.
Easy to park. Room for 3 kids. Economical on petrol.
I ll always have a soft spot for the fiesta although I have a Mercedes now (with a much smaller boot weirdly).

Mine didn't like puddles either. Bought mine in early eighties brand new. I used savings, bank loan and loan from my dm. Funny was thinking about this the other day and have no idea why I bought new and didn't just use the bank loan to buy second hand.

snackcurator · 25/10/2022 22:57

I know what you mean. My first car was an S reg Ford Fiesta. I loved that thing! I've had 2 over the years. End of an era!
