Ford Fiesta to be axed

Has anyone heard that Ford are set to axe the beloved Ford Fiesta? I feel quite emotional having owned a few in the past. My first car was a mark 3 model.

My 1'st care was a 1982 Mark 1 Ghia 1100cc! TCD 867X IIRC! Loved that little car I virtually lived in it when not working just driving around checking out places I'd never been! That was 1996......Was so sad to see it go around 1998! I also liked the Mark III models, sadly they rusted as badly as the Mark II's!

Never took to the Mark IIII's & after them, the magic was gone by then! Such great memories & happy times in that old Fiesta! I was in the car trade then panel beater & painter so little white Ghia was given a full respray, an engine from a very low mileage car! The interior was minty & was left as it was, lovely seats in great shape just a decent radio/cassette installed & some 6 X 9 speakers set into the original very solid parcel shelf! What a system! No silly amps or lights just top quality speaker cable run to the rear from the central concert........I so wish I hed some pictures of it! Happy days! 🙂

I’ve suspected it’s been long in the tooth for many years, we’ve owed 2 and frankly the newest 2012 plate was under equipped and sluggish despite being the top spec.

unfortunately small cars have evolved and are generally better equipped than the fiesta.

I stand to be corrected but where I am they aren’t popular and the polo and corsa seem to be the car of choice.

Vitriolinsanity · 25/10/2022 23:02

That is a blow. They are a perfect small car. Everyone can fix them, they run until they fall apart. My first was a Y plate, my second a C and I drive my mums 59 whenever I need. They are insanely expensive on the second hand market, but I was planning to get DS one when he passes his test.

I hope this isn't true. All my favourite cars have been fiestas, I've done/been to some amazing things in them 😔

SkylightSkylight · 25/10/2022 23:09

Oh no... that's sad. I had one years ago My cars have Mostly been fords. I was going to get a fiesta this time & last, but ended up with the focus as I could fit my Bike in. Plus all the mountains of kids crap/senior PE kits etc. the Fiesta was a bit too small.

I have recently been thinking about getting one though as I can't load/use my bike since my accident.

might have to get one before they stop making them!!

I LOVE the Ford windscreen de icing/de fogging system I couldn't go back to anything else, so it might have to be another focus, or if I speak nicely to Santa, maybe the puma, I'd rather have a fiesta though!

sanityisamyth · 25/10/2022 23:13

I ordered a brand new Fiesta in March and it still hadn't arrived. The particular spec I wanted now doesn't exist on the website. And now they're stopping them completely. I can't see it ever arriving!! I love Fords and am quite upset about this.

I miss this soooo much! I used to have a Ford ka and honestly it was awful but the best thing about it was the heated windscreen.

I learned to drive in a Fiesta Sad

thelionthewitchtheaudacityofTHISbitch · 25/10/2022 23:17

So sad to hear this - my 1st car was a Ford Fiesta E275TKO - how we knew she was a Kentish lass! Loved my car. I found some old photos recently and the current DC studying motor mechanics has got them up on the wall. They are quite envious that I owned and drove a ford fiesta. Sad news.

Who didn't! :)
Like children in England and Wales who learn to ride on Welsh Mountain Ponies.

My late FIL was part of the team that designed the Fiesta (he was an engineer at Ford). We are currently on our third. Our first was the original design, but top of the range because we bought second hand from BIL who had bought it through the staff scheme as he also worked for the company. Each of our Fiestas has grown compared to the original - today's model is so much bigger than the original. We love our Fiesta and both DH and I are very sad to think that our current one will probably be our last.

cantthinkofabetterusername · 26/10/2022 07:42

This is sad
I currently have a fiesta and I absolutely love it! Decent sized boot, can fit the kids in no problem. I'm keeping mine until it doesn't run anymore, don't know what I'd get next

DJSteves · 26/10/2022 08:16

My first brand new car was a 51 plate Fiesta. End of an era

echt · 26/10/2022 08:50

The first car DH and I bought together, which was also my first car, was a Ford Fiesta. It never failed to start.

MishaBukvic · 26/10/2022 08:59

Oh this is the end of an era :,-(

Did anyone watch "Funeral for a Ford" that Grand Tour (aka Top Gear) did a few years ago? Gosh, I'm not a massive petrol head but that made me sob. Seeing all the photos of the families with their Fords over the years. Welling up now thinking about it...

Nolongera · 26/10/2022 09:17

It's marketing, they are dropping the name. I still hanker for my Ford Anglia. They will still makes small cars.

Oh wow. The original was so much smaller. I remember a friend had a mark 2 model and I felt so close to the ground and like there was nothing between me and the road when it. The mark 3 was a bit roomier ha ha.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/10/2022 11:11

I've had loads over the years and I loved them. I'm picking up a new Mazda 2 on Saturday but this is making me wish I was getting a Fiesta instead. The only one I wasn't keen on was a 1l one I had a few years ago as it wasn't a turbo and was sluggish.

I'll probably stick with a Mazda going forward as I wouldn't drive a Vauxhall if you paid me and I think of the Corsa as being the nearest equivalent to a Fiesta.

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/10/2022 11:34

I learned to drive in a mk1 fiesta in the 1980s.

lobsterkiller · 26/10/2022 13:01

I've only ever driven Fiesta's, love bombing about in them. The last one was very nippy. Think I'm going to take a bit more care over this one and hopefully when it's time to change I may get a decent price for it.

Very sad though, end of an era.

knittingaddict · 26/10/2022 13:07

I've been driving for 17 years and have only driven Fiestas. I'm quite sad about this. All of my cars have been reliable and fairly cheap to repair and, if you pick the right engine size, they are nippy and fun to drive.

Fifiesta · 26/10/2022 13:10

A sad day, I ‘ve had two, & hoped that they would bring out an electric or hybrid model…
