I have known my friend M since 1964.
The first day of infant school she was crying going up some steps with a teacher
I was crying going down the steps with another. Both teachers just got us to hold each others hand and that was the start of this long friendship. We now live over 100 miles from each other. Speak on the phone every couple of weeks.
We are maybe not as close as we were in school but we have both been beside each other through some pretty bad times.
That's a friendship of over 58 years have you got a friend you've known longer

Oldest friend 51 years, met at nursery. Best friend over 40 years, although our paths did cross earlier as children, we only became friends in secondary school.

I love all these old friendships, there's something about knowing someone through all stages of their lives!

Depends how you define 'known'. One of my school friends was born two days after me and we and our mums were next to each other on the same ward for a week, although we then didn't see each other again until we started secondary. If that doesn't count, I have a friend I've known since I was about four and she was three, when she came to live around the corner from me, so that's about 46 years. I've known my closest friend 33 years, since the first week of uni when I commented on her brightly painted shoes in a lift.

Oldest friend 66 years since secondary school. Two others 40 years since NCT. Live a few hours away now but see oldest mate every couple of months, speak to others every couple of weeks and see about once every six weeks. They’re my surrogate sisters!

37 years since we were 2

34 years, I've known others longer but don't keep in touch other than social media but my best friend 34 years.

We see each other every week and text most days and I'm absolutely devastated that she's planning to move 500 miles away in the next few years, I'm going to be totally lost without her.

My dearest best friend passed away suddenly last year. We'd been best friends since junior school.....so 46 years.
We used to run around the playground being Outer Spacer crisps (those of a certain age will remember!). She was pickled onion, I was smoky bacon! The pickled onion were round shaped so she used to spin round and round til she was dizzy! Smoky bacon were A shaped so I'd run around with my arms above my head in an A shape....all while chanting "Outer Spacers out if control" ....all very silly but great fun when you're 7!! I miss her so much 😢

My best mate I have had for 40 years. I couldn’t live without him, he is my brother and best mate all rolled into one in my eyes. I am truly blessed . My dh loves him too.
