I have known my friend M since 1964.
The first day of infant school she was crying going up some steps with a teacher
I was crying going down the steps with another. Both teachers just got us to hold each others hand and that was the start of this long friendship. We now live over 100 miles from each other. Speak on the phone every couple of weeks.
We are maybe not as close as we were in school but we have both been beside each other through some pretty bad times.
That's a friendship of over 58 years have you got a friend you've known longer

This makes me feel so sad my friend of over 40 years has decided I have offended her in some way and is really distancing herself from me and some other longstanding friends.
I'm glad to hear your friendship is enduring must be lovely

hugoagogo · 24/10/2022 21:45

39 years!
Only the one mind. It's a big commitment. Smile

My cousin, over 50 years, since she was born (I'm a few months older). We're best friends and have been a huge support to each other. We can chat for hours about nonsense, we have never run out of things to say to each other.

FeralWitch · 24/10/2022 21:47

Since 1977. We met at nursery school.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 24/10/2022 21:47

We are both 43 and have been friends since we were 11. We live far apart and have done for years, but when we are together, it's like we've never been away from each other. I absolutely love her, she is amazing. More like a sister than a friend.

MarigoldPetals · 24/10/2022 21:48

Since 13, so 22 years. She was a friend of a friend in high school and I still remember the first time she said hi as we ran past each other in P.E.

cookiecreammmpie · 24/10/2022 21:50

1999, first week of secondary school. We're nowhere near as close as we used to be though and I've not heard from her for a few months.

Page394 · 24/10/2022 21:51

My oldest friend I met as a baby in 1985 because our pregnant mums bonded at baby clinic and we lived on the same street. Don’t see her much these days as she lives at the other end of the country now, but we’re still in touch, and our mums are still really close.

Metabigot · 24/10/2022 21:51

29 years. I have another friend I've known 28 years.

Lost loads of others along the way!

britneyisfree · 24/10/2022 21:52

Since birth, 36 years, our mums met on the maternity ward and although our mums lost touch we are still close.

HappyKoala56 · 24/10/2022 21:54

34 years, met each other at playgroup when we were 3. I'm to be best woman for him at his wedding next year - he feels more like a brother to me than just a friend.

Dfg15 · 24/10/2022 21:54

since we started school, 60 years and still best friends. We don’t see each other that often, but when we’re together it’s like we’ve never been apart. In touch via WhatsApp at least weekly, sometimes more.

thephoticsneezer · 24/10/2022 21:56

55 years - lives taken slightly different paths with children and careers but still message every day or so and see each other at least once a week.

ginislife · 24/10/2022 21:57

62 years. I'm 62. They both lived in our road and are 18 months older than me. One 5 doors up the road, one opposite. Known them all my life. Another is 3 months younger than me and lived 5 doors down the road.
Then 2 I've known since I was about 10/11 ish. They went to school with the one 5 doors up the road. The 4 of us go for dinner about every 8 weeks ish.
I'm still friends with quite a few I started senior school with at 11. There's a reunion this weekend.

QueenWenceslas · 24/10/2022 21:58

I’ve been best friends with my two closest friends since year 7 and we’re 36 now so 25 years. They are the sisters I never had.
