How long have you known your oldest friend.

I have known my friend M since 1964.
The first day of infant school she was crying going up some steps with a teacher
I was crying going down the steps with another. Both teachers just got us to hold each others hand and that was the start of this long friendship. We now live over 100 miles from each other. Speak on the phone every couple of weeks.
We are maybe not as close as we were in school but we have both been beside each other through some pretty bad times.
That's a friendship of over 58 years have you got a friend you've known longer

My oldest and best friend and I met when we were 5. We’re now 66. So we’ve known each other and hung in there together for 61 years.

Josette77 · 25/10/2022 02:34

44 years. My whole life.

myfavouritemutant · 25/10/2022 04:10

36 years for me.

But my mum’s oldest friend was a neighbour born around the same time as her, and they’re now both 78 and still close. It’s really lovely.

Longest standing friend - 46 years after meeting at primary school but not as close as we were; now mostly online/post friends due to distance/health barriers.

Closest friend - probably only 15 years but really gelled and chat most days plus know each other’s deepest thoughts/feelings

the80sweregreat · 25/10/2022 05:09

39 years !! My best and closest friend is lovely

my oldest friend has turned out to be a absolute horror story who gives me sleepless nights with sorrow about how she's treating me and others i

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 29/10/2022 23:09

I am 42 years old, I have a core group of friends I have been friends with since I was young, one since I was 6, one since 13 and the others since 16. They are all friends with each other too. It means we feel like family to each other. I am confident they will be my friends and chosen family forever.

19 years, friends since 13. The friend is male and totally platonic, basically see him as family.

I have known my oldest and best friend for 59 years and I'm currently sitting at her death bed with her partner and a couple of others. I'm breaking my heart at her imminent loss but she's ready to go

That is sad Flowers

What was my best friend I have known for 59 years this year. Sadly, I feel the friendship is over, it's been a long build up to this point, but there is no going back.

However, on the bright side, I have a very dear friend who I've known for 49 years and we whatsapp or speak most days, holiday together and are very close. We all used to be a threesome together. Now it's a twosome. But that's OK. I can't cope with the oldest friend any more.

Pseudonamed · 21/03/2023 13:20

41 years and 38 years for my two oldest friends.

Floralnomad · 21/03/2023 13:23

fuckitfuckitall · 21/03/2023 13:26

Our mums met at antenatal classes

SumerianGod · 21/03/2023 13:30

We were born same week, same hospital. Our mums were on the postnatal ward together, initially kept in touch a bit but waned off gradually. We then ended up at same primary school and became best friends. We now live in different countries but exchange the occasional WhatsApp and we make an effort to see eachother for a catchup when we're in eachothers country.

Yirk · 21/03/2023 13:32

70 years minus the 3 months she is older than me, our mother's were friends we were brought up together, went to school together and we are still best friends.

the80sweregreat · 21/03/2023 13:35

39 years for one and 53 years for the other friend ( from school )
We don't see that much of each other , but we stay in touch.

TroysMammy · 21/03/2023 13:37

43 years. First year of secondary school. Her new class friend left to go to another school and my new class friend went into another class. I remember her saying that as our respective friends weren't in our class any more would I be her friend.

She was sometimes horrible to me as a teenager and my DM has held a grudge against her ever since but we are still friends and I love her.

Enko · 21/03/2023 13:41

45 years. She is still the one I turn to when I have good and bad need too. We are 1000 miles apart distance wise but when we get together it's like we saw each other last week.

FooFighter99 · 21/03/2023 13:44

All our lives really, I'm 38 and she is 37. Our families are friends and we attended Sunday school together, then all through primary and high school (drifted a bit in our teens/early twenties). Live round the corner from each other now Smile

She's my best friend, no matter the distance or how long we go between speaking. I'll always have her back no matter what

Ragwort · 21/03/2023 13:46

63 years ... we met at nursery school Grin - we both moved away from 'home' and lived in different locations miles apart but happily now have ended up just an hour apart... my DM is 90 and still in touch with a friend she made when she was 6!

Ostryga · 21/03/2023 13:51

31 years! We’re both almost 35. Met on the first day of primary. She just had her first baby and we’re are godmothers to each other’s daughters 😍

Ikeatears · 21/03/2023 14:12

I was friends with my oldest friend from the age of 5. Sadly, she died at the age of 42 in 2020. I have no doubt we would have been friends into old age if we'd been given the chance.

Fifthtimelucky · 21/03/2023 14:23

I've known my oldest friend for 58 years, when we started primary school together.
