Is this a shocking amount of alcohol?

Yeah yeah if you have to ask it's a problem etc etc, but just wondering if anyone else is at this level or if you think it's absolutely terrible. Two bottles of prosecco on a Friday night (16 units in total) and the same on Saturday night. So 32 units in total, prosecco is less than wine (wine would blow my head off but this doesn't somehow) so I'd say around the equivalent of 3 bottles per wine in total. This isn't every weekend... but I admit it's pretty regular. I never drink in the week (or want to) I have a busy stressful job, other evening commitments and I'm in bed knackered by 9pm most week nights!! I know it's way above the guidelines but lots of things are...

Fucking hell, this thread is one of those “MN is a different planet” ones.
OP, yes it’s a lot. “Get help” though? Really?

I did 2 bottles every Friday and Saturday night (and more, much more) throughout my whole 20s. Often followed with Sunday brunch (the boozy kind). It had no impact on my professional or personal life, I could drink like a fish, never had a hangover, all was good.
Fast forward 10 years, the FEAR after a boozy night is a nightmare. I still don’t get any adverse physical effects but my god the anxiety is a killer. So I have cut down and massively so.

I’d say it’s important to evaluate the effect of your drinking on your life first. I also think it’s different for people in their 20s and completely different if you’re 50 (possibly more damaging then if it’s been going on for 30 years). If you’re questioning yourself OP, maybe there is something there that you’re potentially concerned about but only you will know that.

@FuckingHell123 this isn't the most balanced place for responses. It's bothering you which means you are thinking of changing it.
What other drinks do you like? I often notice wine / Prosecco drinkers finish their drinks quickly because the are small in terms of volume. Try having a g&t for example (use a measure) you will drink far fewer units that way. Plenty of ice and enjoy 😊
if you want to stop altogether then look
at non alcoholic versions.

I binge drink every few months probably, perhaps every other month or every other 2 months and Christmas will involve a little more alcohol - and have been known to have a couple of bottles of white (11% or 12%) to myself over the course of a long time (not a week though, like most of MN) and then a G&T to keep the buzz ticking over without getting lairy or slurring.

I do go for months without anything though as I live rurally and don’t like to have a drink in a pub or at someone’s home if I’m driving - sometimes I’m just incredibly in the mood to get drunk. I don’t get a hangover afterwards though I would feel like shit if it was red wine.

I am quite curious about my liver health so I’m going to book in to get a scan to see the rigidity or whatever it is. Maybe do that OP? And then see what practical state you’re in and you can choose.

I don’t think MN is that reflective of Real Life though. I don’t know anyone with an air fryer, most people I know drink at LEAST 2 glasses of wine a day at home and don’t think woodburner are going to kill them in their sleep and would only have a “massive salad” if they had no choice in the matter.

The answer is obvious. Why are you even asking?

I would be violently I’ll if I drank that much. It can’t be good for you.

Then again I’ll sometimes have an alcoholic drink during lunch on a work day which some would judge as ‘inappropriate’ so what would I know.

@PotKettleB Grin
I have an air fryer, eat salad all the time (although only really in summer) and don't drink
No wood burner though...
